Basketball and Jesus
Our church has a program of organized basketball administered and directed by Doug White (not to be confused with our pastor, who also has the same name). Recently, Douglas was asked why he was so passionate about the sport of basketball, basketball, and you have to do with Christianity. I thought his philosophy may be useful for others who want to create a sports program of the church. He explained that the organized basketball can be a good Christian upbringing broth. Douglas believed that begin with the right goals in mind: the construction of believers for their Christian walk. Coach White follows these eight principles:

Our church has a program of organized basketball administered and directed by Doug White (not to be confused with our pastor, who also has the same name). Recently, Douglas was asked why he was so passionate about the sport of basketball, basketball, and you have to do with Christianity. I thought his philosophy may be useful for others who want to create a sports program of the church. He explained that the organized basketball can be a good Christian upbringing broth. Douglas believed that begin with the right goals in mind: the construction of believers for their Christian walk. Coach White follows these eight principles:
A. The program leader and coaches must remember the purpose of the program in all its activities. The core of a basketball success is conditioning and fundamentals. These are two things that kids will love, because they are less infected with sports on TV, where the emphasis is on individual player to look as good as possible. By focusing on conditioning and fundamentals, coaches can begin to wean kids off the search for the glory of the mentality inherent in professional sports today, and develop a team.
2. Every practice must begin and end with a prayer and the prayers should be led by players as soon as possible. The last 15 minutes of each practice should be a lesson for Bible study, where players must take a lesson or verse and be prepared to give meaning and application of basketball or their daily lives. Each player must have his Bible in hand and a lesson written on the inside.
Three. The lesson Bible study will be one of the most emotionally difficult players will face. Not only to read and understand, but we must also talk with their peers. To demonstrate how simple the task really is, Coach White will lead the first 2 or 3, is a chapter of Proverbs. Proverbs is a book easy to use because it is built around life lessons. The challenges they face in court boil down to challenges in life: anger management, teamwork, physical exertion, pain, disappointment and joy. The requirement to have a lesson on a piece of paper can be answered by writing a saying on a piece of paper with the point that the player is trying to do. Those without a Bible or lesson earn a martyr (what the secular world calls a “suicide”) for each violation. The penalized player will run during the preparation of the lesson.
