Basketball and Jesus
Our church has a program of organized basketball administered and directed by Doug White (not to be confused with our pastor, who also has the same name). Recently, Douglas was asked why he was so passionate about the sport of basketball, basketball, and you have to do with Christianity. I thought his philosophy may be useful for others who want to create a sports program of the church. He explained that the organized basketball can be a good Christian upbringing broth. Douglas believed that begin with the right goals in mind: the construction of believers for their Christian walk. Coach White follows these eight principles:
4. Coaches must remind his players that all constraints are prime examples of players through the use when basketball becomes just a fond memory. Working hard and hammering their bodies that the ships will make the brain more alert and able to perform seemingly impossible physical tasks for years into the future. And if any of the players really decided to become missionaries, their physical training is an ideal base for supporting the plight of third world countries.
5. In order to achieve the goal of improving our Christian life is to play basketball framed in the context of physical contests and opportunities to demonstrate the attitude of Christ-like. Christian players do not question or complain about a referee call. Christian player appreciates the difficult position of judge in chaos, and management has the thankless task they have undertaken. Complain about a call to rolling his eyes, or hot dogs to win a point near the bank where you can see the price of his teammates for his absence.
6. The other team is not “the enemy” but are brothers to us. If the other team is secular, we are a team could see how Jesus behaves and how it makes us different. The goal as a Christian team is put an effort level Jesus would be met, and an attitude that makes fans and players both wonder how he can be in today’s world. As Christians, play basketball, they must emerge victorious if we win or lose the game.
7. When the game is over, win or lose, the players must understand that God is in control. God is a “sort of detail man” who counted the cattle on a thousand hills, if you know exactly what happened during the match. And he looks at what happens after the game. Win or lose, Team Christian envy of all fans and all the coaches, because of their behavior and way of playing. As a model coach Christian the same attitude. No team is never “off” by his team, no matter how bad their skills. Each team has the same degree of respect you want for your team – even if it means putting the best players at bay, denying them the ability to score at will. We still play hard and give our best effort, but it is still possible to stop driving position.
8. The true measure of success for the coach is not the record industry won loss, but the activities of its players participate in basketball is over. A successful coach will have successful graduates of the people in the program, and in turn can Positively affect people who come into contact as they move through
