How to Understand the Bible

Many of us “labor” over subjects we are confused. Think about what you truly see with clarity and put it into practice, and I believe that everything else will fall into place.

Step One:  I believe if you are going to involve yourself in any type of self imposed Bible program, you should at minimum start with the Books of Proverbs and Psalms.  This is the place I began many years ago and the are of the Bible I believe to be the easiest to understand.

Step Two:  Psalms and Proverbs are rather like poems and provide a great deal of good advice; plus they are very easy to find because if you just open up the middle of your Bible there you will find them.

Step Three:  I cannot tell you how many years I stayed “hooked” to Psalms and Proverbs as I like both Books a great deal.  Also, for me they do not require a great deal of dissection as far as meaning since they are relatively easy to understand.

Step Four:  Another area you will want to explore as a beginning Bible student is the Chapters of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  These are the Chapters of the Bible about the Life of Jesus and told by four different individuals who were closely associated with Him.  You will find each Chapter provides an account of Jesus’ life by four different men and each account although conveyed in different fashion still tells the same life story.  I believe this happened in order that God could better prove the true existence and Life of Christ.

Step Five:  Purchase books by the Dutch evangelist Corrie ten Boom.  This lady lived through the Holocaust.  Her faith comes through in her writings and she will help you stay on track as far as your daily Bible readings.  Daily Bible readings are essential for all of us and I believe are just as important as eating nutritious food for our physical body.  It is important to read a Psalm per day as there is too much activity where persons are making the subject of “Evil” popular.

two books you cannot be without if you seriously consider yourself a bible student:

    1. How to read the bible for all its worth by fee and stuart
    2. the bible karen armstrong

you might also want to widen your mind with don cupitt, spong, borg or hick.

only the first onw is really safe for fundamentalists and evangelicals. the second one is very do-able but the last four authors might cause doubts.
