Is That a Fake ID? Change to Something Better

Intelligent Design. Teleological reworkings that suggest Paley had a faulty watch.

There are several problems with this as a plausible theory.

  1. As you have already worked out the designer could be an alien or gods or any being(s) with the intelligence and ability required. It does not have to be the Christian God or any indeed any god. Even if we accept the universe is designed we must admit that we are left with few clues as to what the designer is actually like or if the designer(s) are still around.
  2. Just because something is complex does not mean it must have been designed. Snowflakes are complex patterns formed in frozen rain but we do not look for a snowflake designer in the clouds. Chemical structure and DNA can become complex over time but this does not neccesitate a designer. Many things on earth are complex but have become so over time without the need for a designer and/or maker.
  3. If we stand next to a large tower block we recognise its design and construction but we do not look for a designer when enjoying the view of the Northern Lights or Giants Causeway in Ireland. The natural world does not always resemble man-made objects. We have never met the designer of the universe but we can find out who made an office block. It does not make sense to assume that because we know some things were designed and made that the universe must also follow these same rules.
  4. If we can find faults in the design, e.g. if something seems to be badly designed, then we must conclude the designer was less than perfect in the execution of the design. How do we explain hernias, hiccups, the appendix, junk DNA, etc. in the human body?
  5. It appears that the universe cannot be redesigned or undesigned.
  6. The designer must also have also been the product of a designer if he/she/it is to be the ultimate designer. If the designer can just exist and was never designed or made why can the existence of the universe not be the same?
  7. Where is the evidence that universe was designed for a purpose and what is that purpose? There appears to no way of discovering this.
  8. Would the universe look the same to us if it had been designed or not?
  9. Was the earth designed for life (the anthropic principle) or does it make sense to suggest that life adapted and evolved to the condition of the earth?
  10. The logic is flawed. It is like saying, Only a rich person could own a hotel. Eva Longoria is rich. Eva Longoria is a hotel owner. What the teleological argument states in terms of ID is this: Complicated objects suggest or imply a designer. Science tells us the universe is incrediby complicated. Therefore the universe must have been designed. This is not good reasoning as it has to rely on additional information that is simply not provided.

Conclusion

Intelligent Designers have merely reworked the Teleological argument and have made the universe into Paley’s watch. The universe does not appear to be a giant watch and shows evidence of faulty design as well as evidence of no design. The logical is a false and the science is dubious at best. The most convincing and the most impressive explanation for the universe, and that which is supported by the evidence, is the scientific explanation as put forward by evolutionay development and physics. These are of course subject to change as new findings update old ones and scientists discover more and more. The best explanation may be flawed and in its infancy but it seems more honest than looking for a cosmic watchmaker who fits our personal beliefs and works the same way as we would don’t you think?

Your last arguement that it does not follow logic- – well. the Greek LOGOS gave us the word logical- eg- all presidents are liars, all liars are green, Mr Smith is a president. Therefor, it follows that Mr Smith is a president, Liar and green.! Logical Huh? Good article.

You will never find god by logic, You must find God by faith! We can learn only so much and then we must take a step of faith into the unknown. The Bible tells us the whole world groans waiting for it’s deliverance from the curse. Just as human beings fell from perfection after the fall, so did all of creation. I don’t think our new bodies will have hernias and hichups! Halleliah!
