It is OK with God to be Gay
Contrary to some, the Christian Bible is not anti-gay. For a 2,000 year old document, granted some was written hundreds of years later, to be taken verbatim is ludicrous. It is a teaching tool with a simple message: Love.
Often the Catholic Bible is used to denounce gays. Priest, laymen, scholars, and people from all walks of life use the Bible as a tool to suppress a minority of the population. When the Bible is studied it is found to be full of contradictions. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, for the overall message of the Bible is simple: Love.
Now some say: “love the person, hate the sin” and feel that gives them the OK to demonize the homosexual. That is as useful as the “Don”t ask, don’t tell’ policy of the US armed forces.
Before quoting the text of the Bible, people should:
- Actually read the Bible
- Read the versions of the Bible before King James
- Not be afraid to question the Bible
- Ask why are woman are no longer allowed to be priest
- Ask why Priest are no longer allowed to be married
What is particularly amusing is that people try to force their religious beliefs on others. If you still believe that homosexuality is a sin, don’t be a homosexual. With all the wars, disease, homelessness and other struggles of the human race it is interesting to listen to those that speak out against homosexuality (hello Haggert!). If you believe in God, let God do the judging.
The Jesuit who taught me the Bible was adamant that the Bible not be taken literally. In his view, the Bible is a teaching tool, with the over riding message being to love thy neighbor as you love yourself. There are multiple religions in the world and a lot of them have the same fundamental ideas. Perhaps it would be best if more people compared their religion to other religions and note the similarities rather than the differences.
Below is a clip that I was sent years ago by a friend that was in a monastery for years. He is better equipped to quote verse and which Bible it is from better than I.
So I leave you with some interesting Bible tales:
Contradictions
The Bible is an unreliable authority because it contains numerous contradictions. Logically, if two statements are contradictory, at least one of them is false. The biblical contradictions therefore prove that the book has many false statements and is not infallible.
Examples of Old Testament Contradictions
The contradictions start in the opening chapters of the Bible, where inconsistent creation stories are told. Genesis chapter 1 says the first man and woman were made at the same time, and after the animals. But Genesis chapter 2 gives a different order of creation: man, then the animals, and then woman.

In all honesty, I didnt make it through the whole things, because of many reasons none of which are a strike against the quality of writting.
the Bible was NOT “the word of God” it is full of contradictions. It is the work of man… claiming to be the word of God…. it was written NOT in English and has been mis-translated.. it was not even written in verses, which can change the meaning of some points… many parts of it were eliminated when it was put together by Constantine so many years ago..
If God made the world, everything it it, and so forth.. than clearly he has nothing to hold against homosexuals.

I come from a very diverse racial background so let me say this, we come in all shapes, sizes, colors, ailments, dysfunctions, ages, sexes, creeds; whether, homosexuals, bisexuals, heterosexuals and so on. God loves us all. An excellent, educational and thought provoking piece!

Good to read your point of view. God is in your heart as far as I am concerned and let that ‘entity’ be the judge of any kind of behavior, not religion which has been power seeking since it became organized , nor those that sought to condemn through scriptures that were generated to control the masses and make be feel ‘guilty association!!

Belief/opinion? There is much to consider here. We each have choice. My concern for man-kind is when we are called upon for our soul, what then? This piece requires meditation. Inspiring in many ways.

Nicely done! This must have entailed many hours of research, which is refreshing to see. You are well versed on the topic, though I’d like to see more about homosexuality and the bible.

I certainly agree with you. Anyone who has read very much of the Bible knows it to be true. Let’s just say God is love. We can never go wrong with that thought. Thanks for spreading a message of truth.

Wow this is simply MASSIVE! Grats on a job well done!
I agree with the earlier poster — I would’ve done this as a series. With a series you not only get more opportunities to be read, many people will friend you and work through the series with you.
I hate to be one of the “too long, didn’t read” people, but it almost applies here!
Don’t worry, I’ll get through it all.
I have to disagree with the book having false statements. You have offered overwhelming evidence, but I believe that these mistakes are traceable to human error rather than Godly mistakes.
The Bible was a human work inspired by God and so contains human mistakes. But if God didn’t think that homosexuality was a sin, why then did he raze Sodom and Gomorrah?
(It is true that those people were also doing incest and bestiality though, so I can’t blame God on that one).
I believe homosexuality is a sin. It is not the end-all-be-all of sins, though, it is a sin, exactly like adultery or murder.
I don’t shun gay people. I welcome them.
I agree most of all with what rutherfranc said. We find out in the end, for now love is the most important thing (and that’s, as you pointed out, the most emphasized idea in the bible).
The Golden Rule really is an amazing thing, isn’t it?
Sorry for the slanty things — it does that.

Great article. I agree people should fully read the bible before telling others what it really means.
For those who say they do believe in the bible fully yet go and do everything the bible teaches are wrong, to those who “go against the bible” are stupid. Not ignorant, stupid because if they really believed in it they wouldn’t do such things.

Sorry, but Homosexuality is a grave sin and those who commit the sin will be punished. Better get 1,000,000 SPF sun block because it is hot down below.

Clay, you did such a good job with this article. No matter what my faith may be…I have always been a firm believer in living your life in the manner that works for you. Whether you are gay, straight, man or woman. Limits should not be put on our career choices or our choice on who to love. Well done!

You did good. I’m astounded. Don’t be put off by the woman saying the golden rule is still good. Actually its false; One must learn to treat people the way they want to be treated (and thats something we must learn from person to person), its less accurate to assume they all want to be treated the way we ourselves would like to be treated. The golden rule is full of flaws which human intelligence can see.
