Life, Religion, and the Existence of God

The question of whether or not God exists has been bounced around for years.

Since ancient times, peoples have worshiped one or more gods out of self-created fear or simply out of pure tradition. Wars continue to be fought over different religions, while others battle with the pen about beliefs on god. Today, thousands criticize old religions for their primitiveness and lack of true thought. Atheists simply denounce all religion and the existence of some supreme power. But who is right? And, most importantly, where is the evidence for a person’s claim?

In this article, evolution is absolutely true. Therefore, all forms of life have evolved from one organism, probably a single-celled organism, over several billion years. But it makes sense for that single-celled organism to have appeared by chance as well, some random collision of atoms, perhaps. But what started those atoms? Where they always there? Or were they, so to speak, created? This is perhaps one of the important questions of life. But it would seem that they were created and were not always there, because all things seem to have a beginning.

But is the mysterious power that created the world, and perhaps life, still alive? This is the second great question about religion, and more moot than the question about creation. Some say that if some thing created the universe, then it is still alive. Others disagree completely, saying that since we because we seem to have our own judgment and the world is slowly being understood through science. Therefore how could the creator of the universe still affect how the world works? However, we must keep in mind that perhaps we do not truly have judgment over our lives, and our minds work the way most humans believe that the minds of animals work: perhaps we simply act very predictably, according to the circumstances. If the question of whether we have judgment over our lives or are simply victims of hormones and chemicals produced by the body is answered, perhaps we will have greater insight into whether or not a supreme being still exists.

Good article. A very interesting meditation. You raise a very interesting question. What or who is god or God. The grand designer or a cosmic accident? Either way I think it is hard to argue against the notion that “something” created everything else, at least was a catalyst for the creation of everything else. Maybe not, maybe everything has always just been.
