Global studies homework.
Mecca is the holiest city in Islam, followed by Mecca and then Jerusalem. Mecca is located in South West Saudi Arabia. The city is modern and is closed to non-Muslims. Mecca is where the Islamic prophet Mohammed proclaimed Islam. One of the five pillars known as the Hajj is to make at least one trip to Mecca in one’s lifetime. This shows the importance of Mecca to the Muslims. Even before the Islamic prophet Mohammed, Mecca was a successful trading center. After Mohammed proclaimed Islam, the city became more holy and even more successful do to the average four million people who go there every year for the Hajj.
