Religion: Our Collapse
What is religion, exactly? According to the North American Encarta Dictionary, religion is “people’s beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life”. Now take that in for a moment. Note how it states “beliefs and opinions”.
People of Faith
Let’s take Christians for example; they believe in God, and he sent his son to Earth to save us from our sins. Analyzing the story of this man more in depth, the bible says he performed many miracles. Among these miracles include walking on water, healing people of diseases by touching them (and in some cases just looking at them), turning bread into wine, and resurrecting himself from the dead. Does this seem something plausible to you? These “miracles”, among countless others recorded in the bible, such as a senior citizen building a giant boat that fit 2 of every animal in the world to keep on while the whole Earth was flooded, people living to be over 900 years old, talking snakes, men etched and made of stone, etc., it can’t happen. It just can’t. And yet, people continue to be ignorant enough to think these can and did occur. To argue my point, believers would say “you have to have faith in it.” Faith, why do I have to have faith? Who say’s faith is even a good thing? Let’s look it up in the same dictionary. It reads “belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof.” Well, believing and putting so much time, money, effort and affection to something that not only doesn’t have proof, or evidence, and even has evidence against it, seems like a pretty bad and foolish thing. So the “you have to have faith” statement is invalid, to the point of just being silly. These people need to open their eyes and smell the gunpowder, because the real world has been waiting for you.
“Speaking” with God
Praying is obviously a huge part in being religious. It is how most people communicate with their God(s) and figureheads. People report when they talk to God, they hear voices in their heads or “heart”. Neurologically and scientifically speaking, a person who hears voices in their head is considered legally crazy. There’s a little something to think about, along with some comedic relief.
Exploiting Ignorance
They say the Bible is God’s word; his message to us all. But the Bible was written by men. Men make mistakes, men make things up, men do as they please, especially when life was as simple as it was 2,000 plus years ago. It is widely possible that the men who wrote the Bible had often exaggerated, stretched the truth, made things up for their own benefit and pleasure, etc. They didn’t have the knowledge we have now, either. They didn’t have the understanding of science, modern technology and religious views. They just listened to anyone who said they talked to God or angels. So obviously, the Bible cannot possibly be as accurate as God intended. These very often ridiculous stories are automatically accepted as truth and the word of God. To me, it sounds like the church did a hell of a job convincing these people to live by these stories, and they sure have these warped minds wrapped around their finger.
