Should the Bible Continue to be Used for Swearing-in Ceremonies and in Courtrooms?

One view on swearing-in ceremonies.

The United States does not have a standard religion followed by all. We are a free country with people whose minds, ideas and rituals run wild.

What good does using the bible for swearing-in ceremonies really do? Does it prevent people from lying? Or is it a courtroom ritual that has outlived its time?

Sure, there may be a few people out there who would be more apt to tell the truth because the fear of the bible or god was put in to them. But many people do not follow the bible.

Using the bible for swearing-in ceremonies is like giving someone a grill who has never cooked – How do you think that will turn out?

I’m not really sure how I stand on the subject as I’ve never really thought about it but if you look at all the things the bible and God have been taken out, I’d say let it stay. Who knows the blessing that may flow from it. We can clearly see the destruction that flows without it.
