The unwinding, faithless America.
Well, hello. I’m going to start by saying that I’m not a hardcore Christian, or devout catholic, but I do believe that jesus was a man that walked this earth.
That being said, America is in a downward spiral and I think that the lack of faith is the reason. Hold on, hold on. I’m not saying that you have to be an intense religionist, but Christianity has held this country together since the foundation of America. Once we said that anyone can have any religion (including no religion), I think we started down the path to the executioners stand.
At one time, you got married, to get married. Marriage was a sacred thing and its turning more and more into a ‘lets go get married in Las Vegas’ kind of thing. The divorce rate in America is one of the highest in the world, and you know why? Well, I personally think that it’s because of all the stuff that society says we have to do, or watch, or to be like. Obviously, I can’t blame society because I’m apart of it, and claiming that society is the problem is just an easy scapegoat. We now try to strive for goals that someone else has deemed important, we buy things that we will never, ever, really need. Why? To fit in? Religion taught us that having way too much was a type of sin and that you should try and live a modest, humble life. But we messed that up.
The founding laws of this country were biased on Christianity. We survived for a hundred years without really a bump in our perfect road (minus slaves….and some other history), until we decided that religion didn’t need to be a part of everyone’s life anymore. Back in the day, you couldn’t sue over some stupid problem, you wouldn’t really even think of it because of your religious background. Religion has been the glue that has been holding our country together for the last hundred years, but it is a water soluble glue, and the water is unbelievers.
Now, the question. What is driving people away from religion? Is it science? Is it because we are all becoming realists? Has society said ‘it’s not cool’? Maybe this is why we have one of the highest depression rates in the world, because we have lost hope. If you don’t believe in God, what hope does tomorrow bring for you? There is a great quote by….aww, I cant remember but it goes something like this, “Yes, you can see a bird flying and interpret how it is flying by physics and science, but then you loose sight of what is really happening: a bird, A BIRD, is flying.” Science has taken the mystery out of life. Why would we want to live in a world where every phenomenon, every ‘miracle’ can be explained by science? Aren’t something’s better when you don’t know the explanation? This isn’t even to mention that science is now playing God. There are scientists that are creating new species of plants and animals, should they be allowed to? One could argue that humans are part of nature; therefore anything we do is natural. This is just pure ignorance. We are not a part of nature, we are destroying nature….this is a different topic. I think we should say forget science, and get back to living.
Just think about it for a while, and I think you will see that current problems and current trends are all due to a lack of faith. Its no wonder people join outrageous cults, they need something to believe. I, personally, don’t want to be around in 50 years when all faith is gone, when the US will be no more. Unless we want a bunch of mindless and depressed zombies, I think that we need something to believe in.
