Warren Jeffs: Prophet of The Latter Day Saints

Warren Jeffs was born into the elite blood line of the Latter Day Saints. He was the prophet Rulon Jeff’s son, the first son of his fourth and favorite wife. Warren Jeff’s nephews who later tried to bring charges against him said he was a practicing pedophile.

Prophet Rulon Jeffs died on September 8,2002. He was ninety three. Like the prophets before him, Rulon had promised the church to hand the priesthood keys back to Jesus at the second coming-and that he would live another 350 years into the new millennium. But he had turned out to be only human after all, with a mortals span of years. Three times Rulon had promised the church would be lifted up into heaven while the sinners would be annihilated in the apocalypse. Each time the people gathered in the field with the groceries they had been told to bring to last them for the journey through space, and each time returned home with them. Rulon declared they had not been faithful enough and needed more time to repent.

There were rumors Warren had smothered Rulon in his bed, in any case the take over had been completed before Rulon’s funeral. Years before, Warren had been named trustee of the United Effort Plan. The trust’s value was more than $110 million. The organization owned virtually all the property in Colorado City and Hildale. Early in Mormon history Joseph Smith had decided communal property would end poverty and allow members to flourish but in truth, it gave the church the right to take the home and property of anyone who disagreed with the church. And if he worked for the church his family would not only be homeless, he would also be jobless.

Warren Jeffs was arrested in 2007 on charges of an accomplice to the rape of Elissa Wall, sexual misconduct with a minor and incest in Arizona. He was also  charged with marriages to girls 12 and 14 years of age. He is now serving 10 years in prison but according to the church by laws he is the prophet until his death. Warren can still control the church from his cell and all its followers. It is thought he appointed his close friends William Jessop, Wendell Nielson, and his brother Lyle Jeffs to make the day to day decisions until his return from prison.

What a horrid, horrid man. I hope he never gets let out, I hope he dies a miserable painful death, twisting in agony as he takes his last breath. I am reluctant to click I liked it, I liked that you had done it but I found it very disturbing.

Good informative write as always. x

Not a pleasant man at all. How can anyone be called a prophet of God when he is such a terrible sinner? A well told story.

It is sad that so many bad things done in this world are done by people who twist religion to suit their own desires.

They’re pedophiles who use the quise of religion to brainwash these people into submission. I might get some bad mail for my comment but this is what I believe. It’s a wonder here in America this sort of lifestyle is even accepted and actually still goes on. Great piece on a controversial issue!

This man is not a mormon prophet, though he claimed to be. The LDS church does not recognise him as a member. Ruby, your articles are very interesting but I would really appreciate it if you could make sure to state whether or not the LDS church actually sanctions the things you write about. I would not want anyone to be misinformed about the mormon religion.

Thank you everyone for your comments. This man from what I can find out about him was and is a very evil man. As Elizabeth points there are different branches of the Mormon church. Jeffs is the prophet of one of them. Some stories out about him say he has confessed to his cell mates to being a evil man and a pedophile and prays for forgivness. Pedophiles are not well treated in prison so I’m sure he is paying for his cruelty. As far as I can find, the branch he calls himself prophet of still follow him. They consider him appointed by God through his bloodline.

Warren Jeffs is an evil, dispicable waste of space on planet earth. He may be a prophet but certainly not a prophet of God. Anyone who preys on children serves a different master. SATAN.

I’d like to also make it clear that this man is NOT a Mormon or a Latter Day Saint. This group of people broke away from the Mormons many years ago and espouse a very different set of beliefs than the LDS church. His actions are devastating.

I can do without prophets if this is all they have to offer. This is the kind of thing that gives all believers a bad name. A very disturbed individual.

Very well written. How much more could we mislead the scriptures by hiding behind it? It is very amusing how spiritual leaders could commit these acts of violence. Nice one Ruby.

Brrr! Chilling story. I seem to remember the original news stories–a few years back. Amazing how money and power can help people get away with the worst things.
