What Would the World Be Without Religion?
I was sitting here thinking of all the people that laugh at others with a religious background and thought, “what if we all thought like them?” Here are some things I’ve come up with.
Everyone asks the same old questions like, “If God created the world, where did God come from?” or “If the world was created by the big bang, what caused the big bang?” The truth is, we ask these questions because there are people out there that make us question our faiths and beliefs. But what if we questioned them?
Why are they so closed minded? Why do they have to have proof about EVERYTHING? If we were all like them, I honestly don’t think we’d be too happy. We NEED religion in our lives. We NEED to believe that there are better things out there than just us. That we’re not alone, and even if we have no friends or family, we’re still loved, or destined for a higher purpose.
When it comes to things we know nothing about or can’t explain, do we really need to question it if it’s good? A wise person once told me, “I’d rather believe there is a God, and die just to find out there isn’t, then not believe in Him at all, and die to find out he’s real.”
If you think of it this way also, it’s kind of like Santa Clause. If you’re parents taught you about Santa Clause, then you had to have believed them at some point in time. Why? Because mommy and daddy said so. Most of us believe in the things we believe in for that exact same reason.
We believe that the sun is a hot burning ball of gas, right? Why? Because the scientist say so. But no one has gotten close enough to the sun to test that theory out. So how do we know that’s what it is? With a universe as big as ours, and PLENTY of things we haven’t yet explored in it, who’s to say that gases are the only things that burn and give off life. If you’re thinking, “This is crazy, what else could burn like that for so long?” that’s exactly the type of thinking I’m questioning here.
Now that we’re on the subject of the sun, (to help make my point… I swear.) How can that big burning ball of gas (so we think) burn so hot, and the rest of the universe be so cold? How could it stay lit like that for so long without going out already? It’s already been here for thousands of years. Just because it’s big doesn’t mean it couldn’t go out sooner than it’s lasted. The space between the sun and the rest of the universe is much bigger in volume if we think about it. I might be wrong, I’m no scientist.
Of course all of this is theory. That’s what all scientists would argue. But isn’t that what religion is? Scientifically, it’s another theory right? So why question it, if science is always so right? At one point time we thought the world was flat. So scientists, atheists, think about it for a minute. Think of all the other explanations that could be right, and tell me how many you come up with. I’ll bet it’s going to be a lot, considering there are still plenty of things about this universe that we don’t understand.
I know I’m going to get a lot of comments with this, and people might be angry. I wasn’t trying to start any BIG argument with you guys, I was just thinking out loud.

You have argued that science is a bunch of theories and other theories may be just as valid. I suggest you do some research on what a theory is and how they are supported by findings and research. You may also want to read up on cosmology.

Why would people not want proof? Where are all these laughing skeptics you refer to? People of faith believe in things that can not only never be proven but also continue to believe things have been proved false. When I was a child I believed in Santa because I was a child. Now I am older I know that Santa must be made up because he cant do the things our parents told us he could. Its the same with god…
We know enough about the universe, the world and ourselves to know that we dont need god and he is conspicuously absent in our search for answers.

Like I said in my article, it’s a theory. And if God would just up and tell us he was here, there would be no need for faith would there? Do you think the Earth just up and told us that we rotate around the sun? Do you think the wind just told us it was there? No, we felt it, we looked for answer. Now that we have those answers, we look for more questions to answer. Sometimes, you just have to face the fact that there are some things we can’t prove. God can’t tell us he’s here, or we’ll look to Him for everything we need. He knows we need to go through life making our own decisions. But like I said, I wasn’t trying to make a skeptic mad, I was thinking out loud. People do that you know.
