Aahung

·                     Aahung is a Karachi based nonprofit organization that seeks to enhance awareness about sexual health on a national level through research training and advocacy.

·                     In every country there is a policy of moral and immoral but in Pakistan this has been institutionalized though various laws and policies.

·                     The tendency of a state to claim the authority of a moral space and impose values upon the citizens is called moral guardianship. Its roots were build up in 1947

·                     The growing alliance between religion and politics increase the scope of moral guardianship

·                     During the time of Zia the policy of no harm for women was weakened and there was no distinction between adultery and rape.

·                     Aahung aimed to spread awareness about unprotected sexual intercourse and Hiv transmission in Pakistan.

·                     It addressed sexual health from the religious, clinical and issues related to child sexual abuse, perspective

·                     Sexual health was promoted as a human right

·                     It challenged moral guardianship by promoting the notion that human dignity and respect entailed the right to determine and act in accordance with ones sexual values.

·                     It emphasizes on the concept of pro choice and pro life, and that women’s consent should be taken in all matters, be it the decsion to have children and the right to decide with whom, how, and where she will have sex.

·                     It carried out the Sexual Values Study and the Personal Ethics Module- the Sexual Values Study consisted of structured conversations with people belonging to various backgrounds who were married. They tried to understand how the notions about gender, desire, pleasure and intimacy affect comfort behavior and negotiations in sexual relationships. The Ethics Module that both the service providers and the clients have the right to make their own decisions and service providers should provide clients with correct information and biases could be avoided.

·                     Ahung as mainly used a secular approach but this maybe a disadvantage because other minorities and groups could be ignored and their rights could be violated.
