Bdsm Explained, Dominance & Submission

A part of Bdsm is dominance & Submission but what is it and what does it mean?

Dominance & submission (D&S) is the second aspect of bdsm out of the three. The first is bondage & discipline (B&D) and Sadism & Masochism (S&M) is the third. As well as being known for D&S, Dominance & Submission can also be Ds or D/s.

Out of the three parts of bdsm dominance and submission is definitely the most mental and psychological branch. All though bondage is very often associated with dominance and submission it isn’t always the case.

Dominance & Submission isn’t just about the erotic side but is very often about the lifestyle that both the Dominant and the Submissive lead. This lifestyle can continue infinity and can consist of a few small submissions or total submission from the submissive to the Dominant, this is called total power exchange. The basic build of this relationship is that the Dominant gives love & care and the submissive gives love & devotion, this provides a stable and healthy relationship.

There are a lot of relationships that have a dominance and submissive relationship but it is only considered to be a part of bdsm if it is practiced purposefully.

In some of these relationships the submissive might wear have something to openly show everyone that the submissive belongs to the Dominant. The submissive might wear a collar (it is usually a leather collar with a ring at the front), they might have a unique & special tattoo(s), piercing and/or have a very short haircut or even bald.

In some rare instances a slave contract is formed between the Dominant and the Submissive stating the power exchange between them. It’s main purpose is to encourage discussion and negotiation about what both the dominant and the submissive wants from this relationship. The slave contract (and similar contracts) are not seen as legally binding.
