I’m 17, and I’m Already Three Months Pregnant!!!

Simple discussion regarding teenage pregnancy.

Try to look at our society today- teenage pregnancy is already rampant. It seems that in generation, it’s only a normal norm. Teenagers, from low or high economic level, high school or college, provinces or cities are not exempted with this one.

If we try to look and realize, the increase in the percentage of teen-age pregnancy is parallel to the increase in percentage of abortion cases and increase rate of single parenthood.

What’s the cause of teen-age pregnancy?

Simple. Premarital sex. This thing seems to be normal these days among teen-agers. You’re “out of the range” if don’t engage to it. We have different views regarding premarital sex because we are from different places and have different cultures. But in our country, Philippines, this is not accepted in our society, and yet, many are practicing it.

We have the knowledge that premarital sex is not right, and considered a sin, as our elders planted on our minds, but why does still many are engaging in it?  Ah, we cannot question or judge them, because passions of youths are really hard to resist. Well, this maybe in another blog, because we are talking about teen-age pregnancy.

Due to the advancement of technology, many contraceptive methods already exist. This maybe is a reason why a teen-ager is so confident enough to engage in premarital sex. They are confident enough that they will not get pregnant.

The effectiveness of a method has a higher percentage, but it does not guarantee a full protection. There is still a percentage left for every method that causes pregnancy. Each method also requires proper ways of using, and teens sometimes fail to use a method in proper way, that’s why.

In the author’s own opinion, teen-age pregnancy is a prize of an act done out of lust.  Yet, we cannot judge them. If temptation comes to each of us, we are not sure if we can be able to overcome it or not.

In this case, teen- age mothers can still mend their lives because everyone has the right to another chance. They can still move on and have a better future. Actually, in some cases, those teen mothers are more motivated in studying than those who are not (as I observed in my school, Pines City Colleges, in Baguio City).

Yet, the best thing we can do is, if we know we are weak to overcome temptation, find ways to avoid that temptation.
