It is a fact today that more and more women are using pornography and actually getting themselves addicted to it.

A new study conducted by the Internet Filter Review revealed that about 17% of women have said of themselves as addicted to internet porn.

According to the research 6 out of 10 women confessed that they watch online porn. But this is not the problem. The problem comes when these women can’t get enough of what they are watching – and seek for more and more, even if it interferes with their regular daily activities such as their jobs and social relationships.

Porn addiction once seemed to be a man’s problem – but as of today it is also that of a woman’s.

Sandra, a 22-year-old University student says she first encountered pornography at a pretty early age – in her early teens. She mainly accessed it over the internet and saw nothing wrong with it. But then in her late teens her interest in porn began to soar and soar to a height that was beginning to be quite disturbing and unhealthy for her.

“Porn was in everything that I did,” Sandra says “It was constantly on my mind and of course on my laptop I had several hundreds of porn videos downloaded from the internet. I battled with depression a lot so porn was like a savior it helped me escape my depressive moods. It was like a drug to me.”

Sandra sought help instantly when she realized this addiction was becoming more than she could handle. A sex addiction therapist help put her porn habit under control and now the 22-year-old can live a normal life.

The problem of addiction is not peculiar to Sandra alone; as a matter of fact there are several thousands of women who battle with porn addiction.

Porn counseling centers are beginning to see a surge in women clients. About one in three clients seeking help for addiction are said to be women.

“This was not the case several years back.” One of the counselors said

According to experts, women who become seriously addicted to pornography tend to face serious problems with depression and low self-esteem in the later parts of their lives. It is therefore important to seek counseling the moment one notices that their porn habits are beginning to interfere with their daily life activities.
