The most common cause is vaginal dryness. This can occur both before and after menstrual period, as a result taking certain medications such as antihistamines, or from not being aroused enough during foreplay. Vaginal dryness can easily be treated, usually by one of the over-the-counter personal lubricants.
There are other, more serious causes of dyspanreunia. Infections can cause pain, burning or irritation, especially at the opening or within the vagina. Yeast infections are the common reason. Bladder infections and some sexually transmitted diseases can also do this.
Experiencing deep pain during intercourse is a warning that there is a more serious problem such as an ovarian cyst, endometriosis, infection in the uterus or tubes, or tubes, or if you’ve had surgery, scar tissue.
Only an examination by your doctor will give you a definitive reason for your dyspareunia.
