Paths to God in Hinduism
Hinduism is the only religion that advocates different paths to be one with the almighty.
Hinduism is the oldest religion in the world. Over the centuries the wisdom emanating from the Hindu religion has pervaded all aspects of man’s thought and life. Hinduism advocates 4 paths to achieve salvation and reach ’moksha’ or salvation. Briefly they are
a) Knowledge . This is a unique hypothesis and the ancient Purana’s are explicit that god and salvation can be achieved through knowledge and study. An example of this was the maharishi Bhrigue who achieved ‘moksha’ through the study of astrology
b) Prayer. This is the most common path and the ancient Scriptures mention that God can be reached when the inner soul is awakened through prayer. Thus there are cases in Hinduism of men who prayed and prayed and on the strength of their prayers came closer to God.
c) Penance. This is a little different from prayer and involves austere practices and recitation of the mantra. Recitation of the mantras is followed by austere rituals and practices and if done in a proper manner as prescribed in the scriptures then also man can achieve salvation and come close to God.
d) Sex. This is the 4th road or path to salvation. Hinduism lays great stress on Tantra sex as a way to get closer to God. Tantra sex is channelizing the sexual energy in such a way that even the past birth will be visible and man will get closer to God.
All the above methods of salvation and getting eternal bliss have their own advantages and one has to learn what is best suited for an individual But for any of these paths a Guru is a necessity who can show you or lead you on to the correct path.
