Pornography: Is It Degrading Today’s Society?

by sweet sunshine143 in Sexuality, November 24, 2009

Pornography or porn is the depiction of explicit sexual subject matter for the purposes of sexual excitement.

For the past few decades, the industry for the production and consumption of pornography has grown tremendously. This can be attributed to the increasing use of the Internet and the fact that society is more tolerant of sexual behavior now than ever before. In addition, pornography has become widely popular and it is distributed for free on many websites.

According to Wikipedia, pornography is considered and treated differently, both culturally and legally. For example, sex shows and strip tease are not considered pornography in any way, shape or form.  While most countries allow at least some form of pornography, hard core pornography is usually regulated according to research.

With the invention of tiny cameras and wireless equipment, voyeur pornography is gaining popularity. Mobile cameras are used to capture naked pictures or videos and forwarded as MMS.

In some countries, soft core pornography is considered safe enough to be sold in adult video stores or to be shown on TV. Also, in most countries there are attempts to restrict minors access to hard core pornography limiting access to triple X adult sex videos and other materials in the store. There is usually an age of consent required to enter an adult book store. In Florida, it’s either eighteen or twenty-one. I need to do some research on that.

    Hi Literati,

Yeah, I’ve been told that Triond writers like short articles so this time a short one. I mean what else can I say about porn really?

There seems to be such a lot of porn on tv these days. It doesn’t appeal to me but a good piece anyway.

Considering what our church believes, pornography whether mild or hard core is still pornography. guess, many don;t realized that these kind of mediums are being used by Satan. But, i’ll respect others point of views. But to me there are other ways to experience good and quality enjoyment.

Porn will not degrade society, only those who engage in it and they are already degraded.

Pronography is not erotic, it is a sin and people who enjoy it are sinners.

You will find the depictions of explicit sex on the walls of caves. The depiction of explicit sex has always been with us.

Miss M…a great little article…If we take a look are the progression…we had pin-up girls on posters during the war, then Playboy offered us what is now considered soft porn, we had magazines that used nudity in a more artictic form of displaying the female body, then we had the Hustler types of magazines promoting more hard-cord forms of sexual exploitation and porn and now it is everywhere we turn on the internet…solicited or unsolicited it rears its ugly head. There is nothing wrong with sexuality and mild erotica but when bodies are being abuised and violently exploited in the name of pleasure…something is dreadfully wrong. Thanks for raising the issue…almost as if it is in response to my comments from one of your articles yesterday…Thanks again…you said you enjoyed debate…and maybe that is what this issue requires is more debate as long as it is respectful and not aimed at putting others down because of their views or opinions.
