Question About Sexual Identity

Let learn more.

Some young men become so overly concerned with how they measure up sexually that they question their own sexual identity. They think that since they are not having the same or as many sexual experiences as their friends, they might not be heterosexual.

This conclusion comes from combining two pieces of misinformation. The first is that sexual activity makes a boy more manly. We have already seen that this is not true. The second pieces of misinformation is the belief that people become gay because they cannot live up to the demands and expectations of the “straight” world. This concept is completely untrue.Studies have found that sexual identity is determined before birth.Scientists believe that people are  naturally attracted to the same or the opposite sex.About 10 percent of all people are homosexual. They don’t choose to become homosexual in order to escape the pressures of parenthood and family life or to avoid sex with the opposite sex.

Some men become so threatened by homosexuality that they engage in meaningless heterosexual, or “straight”sex simply to prove to themselves and to the world that they are not gay. These men sometimes use women sexually and often produce children simply to escape their own fears and feelings of not being masculine enough.Being a man means accepting one’s sexual identity and acting responsibly.
