Sex: A Curse or a Gift?

The pros and cons of sex awareness, either the negative or positive way or the lack of it.

Sex. What is it anyway? No, I wasn’t referring to the male and female species. I am thinking of the more serious and yes, intimate meaning of the word. The act of making love.

Who hasn’t heard of the word sex? It is as old as the creation of Earth. Even children as young as five years old are aware of it. Blame it to irresponsible TV viewing of the so called adult members in the family not minding if their kids’ eyes are also fixing on the monitor watching the obscene wide eyed. There are also magazines that promote sex awareness, sadly in a negative concept.

Schools, especially in the developing countries are still hesitant to include sex education in their curriculum. Some teachers are not confident to teach the subject even if they are well informed and well educated about its facts. Why? The fear of creating awareness will trigger more curiosity to the young and curios minds. Not to mention the quality of education given or practiced in the said countries are not so efficient.

At home, where education starts and valuable lessons were learned, some parents are neither responsible nor mature enough to take the responsibility of creating a right awareness about sex in their kids’ minds. Some parents are even careless when the surging hormones can not be suppressed and there’s a need to unleash the passion. Unaware or uncaring that someone other than themselves is aware of what the sounds or noises they are making are all about.

Even when a parent is asked by a child how she/he was created, he seemed caught dumbfounded. Either that parent is scientifically unaware of the facts or all he thinks of conception of life is as narrow as sex through orgasms.

In the streets, there is also another face of sex. Everywhere, even in the first world countries, prostitution still exists. Prostitution considered as the oldest profession on earth, also gives a wrong impression about sex. Sex is viewed here as a trade for service and money. Nothing personal. Diminishing the morale both of the trader and the merchant. It is the easiest escape to poverty to some prostitutes. Prostitution is the main agent of sexually transmitted diseases as we all knew.

The worldwideweb, you can click a thousands sites offering pornographic scenes, sex videos, scandals, etc. These sites also offer where to actually find men or women giving sex service. These sites are encouraging and feeding the viewers’ thought malice. As these sites sproute and increase in number like mushrooms, child molesters, sex perverts, rapists, cybersex, and similar cases are similarly increasing in numbers, too. Premarital sex becomes adamant, as well.
