Sex Education as Perceived by Teacher Trainees to Avoid Aids Disease in The Society

Abstract:

Background:

Sex education, which is sometimes called sexuality education or sex and relationships education, is the process of acquiring information and forming attitudes and beliefs about sex, sexual identity, relationships and intimacy. Sex education is also about developing young people’s skills so that they make informed choices about their behaviour, and feel confident and competent about acting on these choices. It is widely accepted that young people have a right to sex education, partly because it is a means by which they are helped to protect themselves against abuse, exploitation, unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS (UN, 2002a; UN, 2002b; UN, 2002c).

Objective:

The objective of present research work was to find out the perception of teacher trainees of Uttar Pradesh (India) on the item whether sex education is required to avoid AIDS disease in the society? The comparison was objected to make between perceptions of the teacher trainees recorded from two genders i.e. males and females and two education systems i.e. traditional and distance. The Interaction among the observations was also to determine.

Methodology:

All the teacher trainees under traditional and distance education systems in Uttar Pradesh (India) were considered as the universe for the present research work. Randomly selected teacher trainees belonged to 46 districts of UP. The specific features included – age group 20-35 years. rural 54% and urban 46%, annual income below 42% and above Rs. 1,00,000-00 58%, unmarried 59%, married 41%, joint 27% and nuclear 73%, Post graduate 54% and only graduate 46%, from SFS college 77% and aided college 23%, general 38%, Other Backward Caste 33%, Schedule Caste 27% and Schedule Tribe 2% and having kids 0-4. The sampling size in present investigation was 200 divided in two classes female and male teacher trainees, which were again two subclasses each under distance and traditional system of education having 50 samples each. Observation schedule method was implemented to collect authentic primary information from the respondents. The teacher trainees were asked whether sex education is required to avoid AIDS disease in the society. Data obtained were classified in such a meaningful way that they were interoperated through tabular and or graphical presentations. The researcher collected and tabulated data and analyzed those using χ2 design.
