Sexting: New Technology, Old Wish: Part One

Talking about a particular technology, sexting – send photos and send lewd text messages to sexually explicit telephone – in the context of relationships. A case of a public figure caught sexting has recently adopted communication technology for your attention.

There are two myths about the practice must be challenged:

1. Only teenagers do. This is simply not true. According to a recent survey, “Internet and American Life Project” by the Pew Research Center, the practice of sexting is more common among adolescents, but among the population aged 18-29 support. And, although not as frequent, are also popular among the 30-49 years old.

2. It is not so common. Again, not true. In 18-29 years, admitted a third of respondents to receive sexually explicit photos / suggestive, and 13% of the poster. In 30-49 years, 17% had images and 5% were sent. Among adolescents, 15% and 5% receive pictures sent. And, as this practice becomes more popular, it is expected that these numbers are increasing.

The increased use of text messages on the couple is to replace phone calls over the age brackets, except the elderly. Text messaging has become the way the couple kept in touch, discuss, and yes, sexually playful with each other.

While text messaging is faster than a phone call, it is also anonymous and can create space for the expression of thoughts and desires that can not be cast in person or via telephone. The additional use of the camera adds to the attraction of this digital device, making the leap from text messages to sexting easy to achieve, not only between partners but also among foreigners.

Although this form of sexual communication can be appropriate in the context of a relationship can be given to unhealthy situations, if misused, and even strangers. Because of the anonymity of fact and because the media does not involve physical contact, some users who are involved in intimate relationships and affect other sexual partners through sexting can tone down their acts. You can actually see sexting not constitute adultery. Sexting therefore can be insidious, as creating it, a pseudo “safe” avenue for people to channel their sexual impulses and desires without regard to their primary relationships. Meet strangers sexually explicit manner also has several dangers in itself, as the case may be with other digital connection.

Although text messaging is a relatively new phenomenon – the name has existed since 2005 – the motivations are as old as mankind. Therefore, we ask, why are people attracted to this form of sexual communication and is most likely to use?

Although there is no single answer that explains why people are attracted sexting, and there is no single profile that applies to all users, but there are certain elements in connection with the sextet that are interesting to discuss.

In the next two blogs, some of these explanations is the popularity of this practice will be discussed, and the fundamental reasons for existence, popularity and use of this technology.

In a blog, thirdly, the role of practice in close relationships are discussed.
