Why Does Sex Sell?

by HatedNation in Sexuality, January 15, 2009

A look behind the cliche.

It’s everywhere, your TV pushes ground everyday. Cable providers get riskier and riskier with each new season of programs. And advertising banks it. Look around. Beauty and sexuality are so commonly flaunted in society today that we all have become a little numb to it. Imagine what the average American from just thirty or forty years ago would think of our sex sells society. Performers of all sorts are at the point of being required to sell sexuality in order to stay competitive. Disagree? Name one overweight pop singer. Yeah, we all know the others, Teen idols that dress provocative and make news with sex scandals.

Is it in the society or is it in us? We the consumer watch the programs, we buy the movies, we go to the concerts. we buy the magazines. Classy and respectable artists go unnoticed while teen sex symbols sell magazines and movies with only a mention of their name. Though television markets have expanded to more drama, more sexuality, it is easy to see the popularity rating of the shows we all know use it. “Romance” shows like “The Bachelor” pour in ratings every sason, Also proving the sex factor is not gender specific..ladies..?

Even public outcry over this topic has slowed to a small portion of religious zealots who probably dont even know how far its gone. Public opinion has slackened and most all of us know its there, and in some way support it. Yeah If you buy magazines, make up or trendy clothes you support it too. So the question is why? My answer: It is a common factor between all humans. Every human has the desire to love and be loved, physical and attraction and sexuality are natural indicators. Or it may just be natural curiousity. It may be that simple it may not be…..You clicked on the article didnt you?

Sex sells because we are all sexual beings. Always has, always will.

It’s too bad that society as a whole would not get behind honor, kindness, decency, etc. The heros our youngsters watch are those they will usually try to emulate.

    it’s a basic instinct
food sells, drink sells, sex sells
like all instincts it has two dangers:
either we get it from the wrong source or it can become an obsession – revivor from twitter

i don’t really comprehend the part where it says, “Public opinion has slackened and most all of us know its there, and in some way support it. Yeah If you buy magazines, make up or trendy clothes you support it too. So the question is why?”
What “it” is, is it public opinion or sex?

Sex sells mainly because we like sex we want sex and if sex is being shown were inclined to pay attention, and since that is what we like as a society that is what we advertise with as a society. Remember we are the media if everyone all of a sudden liked helicopters for some reason the media would cater to that and follow the fad its not what they want us to do, its they do what we want and take it further.
