Wife Bashing

Patrick will tell anyone in earshot  that his wife has four children.  This is how he opens his conversation.  He claims he is not the father of the children. 

Patrick is in his 70s.  His wife is only a few years younger. If what he says is true, why didn’t he leave her four decades ago? 

The reason is that he gets pleasure out of wife bashing.   He enjoys being somewhere she is not telling strangers; “My goat has kids”. 

Charlie was in his forties, great looking guy.  Any woman enticed into his ambit would soon hear the attacks on his wife.  The attacks, unlike Patrick’s didn’t concern infidelity. Charley would diatribe on his wife’s stupidity.
On and on Charlie would go, the female thinking this was the set up to sex. 
There wasn’t sex.
It was all wife bashing all the time.

Charlie, like Patrick, actually gets pleasure out of wife-bashing.

The practice of insulting one’s spouse, primarily in the absence of the spouse is not as rare as one might think. 

There are those who; “My wife doesn’t understand me..” as a line to get a foolish female into bed.  There are those who are on the verge of divorce so have nothing good to say about his soon to be ex.

These are not ‘wife bashers’ . 

Men like Patrick and Charlie are bashers.  They have serious issues with themselves.  Their wives are often eminent people who make them feel inferior.  Unable to take pride in the achievements of their wives they react in a version of ’sibling’ rivalry.

They are not tearing down their wives to gain sexual connection, they don’t want it. 

Women who assume Charley is interested and the deconstruction of the wife will be followed by a personal exaltation learn  that all he wants is a female to listen to him berate his wife, then go away.
