An Eye for Communication
This is an Icebreaker I developed while working in a corporate office.
Purpose:
Master the art of effective communications through demonstrating your ability to communicate clearly by giving descriptive instructions, utilizing your listening skills to interpret the whole picture. To have fun!
Roles in the Game:
Communicator – Describes the components of a piece of artwork in complete detail to the Listener.
Artist / Listener – Recreates the piece of artwork based on the Communicator’s instructions.
Critic / Interpreter – Tries to match the Listener’s interpretation of the artwork to the original piece.
How to Play the Game for 36 people:
There should be 6 teams – each team consists of 2 Communicators, 2 Artists/Listeners and 2 Critics/Interpreters.
The Communicator unveils their piece of artwork (no one else can see it) and describes it in full detail to the Listener.
The Listener recreates the artwork based on the instructions given to him/her by the Communicator – They will have 15 minutes to complete their rendition.
The facilitator unveils the wall of art where the original 6 works of art are hanging along with 6-10 additional pieces of art which are similar in theme.
The Listeners give the Interpreters their rendition of the artwork
The Interpreter has to match the Listener’s artwork to the Communicator’s original work hanging on the wall of art.
Timing: 1 hour
Instructions and Team setup – 15 minutes
Game – 30 minutes
Debrief – 15 minutes
This is a great way to introduce members of a new team to each other, break the ice before a company outing or simply to have some fun at work during a departmental lunch.
