We however, would recommend having a plan when you visit the city of Cairo which certainly depends on how much time you have. Most travelers have only two or three days to visit Cairo, so they are usually limited to short time and consequently they just have enough to do the highlights of the city which may be arranged according to their type and location in two or three days tour:
Day One (Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Sakkara, Step pyramid, Memphis):
This tour is to be done at the outskirts of the city of Cairo to visit the ancient monuments of Egypt which includes the famous Giza pyramids and sphinx, Where you will see the great pyramid of king Cheops which is counted among the seven wonders of the ancient world and rising 139 m high after it lost almost 7 m from its original size due to the fall of the cap stone and the outer facing cases. Right next to it on a diagonal axis is located the middle pyramid built by his son Chephren, which is built on a higher stone elevation that helps to appear bigger than the great pyramid and it still has a big portion of the casing blocks at the very top of the pyramid. Located on the same axis and not too far from these pyramids is the small pyramid built by king Meceyrinus, son of king Chephren, the size of his pyramid is much smaller than the first two, but it was compensated by a beautiful Granite casing which unfortunately never finished because of the sudden death of the pharaoh.
At the foot of Giza Plateau, is located the imposing statue of Sphinx. This powerful and mysterious image of a man and a lion has been very inspiring for all generations. The statue is carved out of the bed rock and represents the proto type of all the statues of the Sphinx which created later.
Sakkara is known to be a vast cemetery which has tombs, pyramids and other monuments dated to various periods, so it is certainly one of the remarkable archeological and historical sites in Egypt which deserve a visit. The site of Sakkara has been always dominated by the step pyramid complex which is built by the architect Imhotep for king Zoser (Djoser) (2691 to 2625 BC) from the third dynasty and this pyramid is very unique has been the very first pyramid and was built entirely out of stone after using the mud brick for construction for long.
Around The Step pyramid, there are lots of other impressive monuments such as the MASTABAs (tombs) of high officials and well off people which are lavishly decorated by scenes from the daily life and consequently provide a valuable detailed record of the life of the ancient Egyptians. There are also the Serapeum, the grave yard of the sacred bull Apis, where massive sarcophagi containing mummified bulls were found.
