Capitalist or Communist?
About capitalism, communism, and the cold war.
Communism normally consists of a one party state, e.g. in Russia councils called the soviets are elected, but most members are communists so it is really run by the communist party. In contrast to this; the Capitalist government is a democratic state and allows many parties to stand in elections with the winner of an election being the head of the government.
Limits on human and civil rights are fewer in capitalist countries with some rights being guaranteed by law; however many of these rights did not apply to black Americans until the 1960s.
The average living standard in Russia is lower than America but because wealth is distributed evenly (controlled by the government) no one lives in extreme poverty.
The economy in Russia could be presented as being better than in Capitalist countries because the profits benefit the Russian public, but some people may exploit this by not working as hard.
In America success (and hard work) pays off because all the profits go to the respective companies.
The Russian culture is tightly governed by the state; because they own the media therefore they can censor things which may be counterproductive towards the government. The capitalist government is freer, and rarely censors media content.
In conclusion I think how well the different systems work would depend on what the country’s people are like, for example; if everyone in a country was hardworking and virtuous, the communist system would work better as no one would “leech” of other people’s hard work and dedication, which will benefit the overall economy and culture. The capitalist system would work better if there was a great contrast between the people’s work ethic, because it rewards hardworking people.
