Chewing Gum Can Make Good Value Exam?

Students who chewed gum in class will usually be sent out to teachers immediately discarded.

But now it seems the school should encourage students to chew gum after a study found that chewing gum can encourage their performance in carrying out the test. Researchers at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, found that those who chewed gum for five minutes before the test get better grades than those who do not, Monday (12/12). According to research in the Department of Psychology, this improvement occurred because chewing can induce passion that last up to 20 minutes.

Previous studies have found that any physical activity improve brain performance, but this proved although small, physical activity can do the same thing. For the study published in the journal Appetite, researchers observed the effects of chewing gum at 80 students. Half the subjects were given candy – both sugar free and with added sugar – and chew before or during the test. Pupils were then given cognitive task, such as repeating random numbers backwards and solve logic puzzles. The result is then compared with subjects who did not chew gum. While the students who chewed gum for five minutes before the test at an average of better value, chewing during the test has the opposite effect by interrupting the brain from its main task. ”This may be due to shared the resources of cognitive processes and mastication, “said lead researcher Dr. Serge Onyper.

These results define a similar study conducted at the University of Northumbria in England in 2002. At that time, one of the principal investigator, Dr. Andrew Scholey, explaining the positive effect of chewing gum on the brain. ”We do not think that it is something in the gums, but that the resistance of chewing gum and actions that make a difference,” he said. ”We found an increase in heart rate of five or six beats per minute when they’re chewing bubble gum. ”This may be related to brain function, but on the other hand an increase in the blood transports oxygen to the brain that can improve cognitive function.
