Cross-cultural communication/ relationship

If there is a company let say in India and that company wants to grow it sales and want to sell their products/ services all over the world. So what should they do now to achieve their goals efficiently and effectively??They should establish the market not only in its own country but also in many foreign countries to achieve their goals. Now you established markets for business in the foreign countries so you as an international communicator and thus your employees must understand others’ cultures and variables to communicate with them effectively.

 A concept of culture

It is the totality of learned, socially transmitted behavior. It is patterned and uniform. Means there will be a system and structure.Culture is ever changing. (Not static) but there will be a difference in speed because some of the societies are very stick to follow changes.Another term you should know is ethnocentrism it means that judging other groups or countries by their cultural standards.try to guess in which countries the following communication and cultural habits exist.

 Techniques of cross-cultural communication:

  • National cultural variables
  • Individual cultural variable

National cultural variables:

Asia is different from Europe with respect to culture As in the above example when the company is communicating with the business people in a foreign country, it must realize that overall national and individual cultural differences. Another term you should know is ethnocentrism it means that judging other groups or countries by their cultural standards.try to guess in which countries the following communication and cultural habits exist.

  1. What do you think of a culture in which people sign their last names first?
  2. What is your reaction when two signatures appear at the bottom of a business letter?
  3. Why don’t people put the month first, then the day, rather than day first, than the month?
  4. How do you react when writing problems such as errors in choice of verb tense, prepositions, and articles frequently occur in writing?

Above are all the dominant characteristics of communication for the following nationalities:

Chinese, (2) German, (3) European and others (4) Chinese and many Asian countries. If you     reacted negatively toward any of the different communication styles in the above questions, you tended to judge them in the light of your own cultural standards. Each time you hold up your standards of what is good when judging written or oral communication from another culture, you must be careful. The company must know the below national variables item before communicating with them

Very informative, I did not realize how many different things you need to pay attention to. But it is understanding to try and respect other peoples cultures. Very nice article.
