Contribution of Social Sciences to National Development
The effect of social sciences on the nation, state or country.I view national development as the gradual social, economical and political growth of a nation so that it becomes more advanced and stronger. National development can occur as a result of its social, economics and political development. Numerous branches of social sciences involvee themselves a lot in National development.
Economics is a social science discipline that studies human behavior in relation to the application of science resources in the process of production, distribution, exchange and consumption”. The needs, wants and desires of human being are challenges that face every nation. For my nation to experience national development, there will be positive advancement in satisfying unlimited wants, needs and desires. Since resources to satisfy these unlimited wants, needs and desires are inadequate, therefore, economics studies how this limited resources can be used to satisfy unlimited wants, needs and desires to bring about national development.
Sociology is a social science discipline that studies man and human society in the context of his social institutions, social structure, social actions and relationships, social system and social change”. Sociology studies behavior and social relationship of men in the society and also gives information on generally accepted rules, practices, norms and usages that suppose to define, direct and govern the behaviour or social relationship of men to ensure nation development.
Geography is the study of earth’s surface, its peoples or inhabitants and the physical features such as land formations, vegetation, climate, soil, agriculture, towns and cities or the general environment in which man lives. Geography as a social science contributes to national development by giving information on the climate, vegetation and even the land formation to the nation for maximum survival of the people of the nation. Geography studies human population and distribution. When there is over or under population in a nation, the nation suffers. But geography ties to correct this, therefore, contributing to the national development. Psychology
Psychology is the scientific study of human behavior. In every nation there are various kinds of human behavior by diverse people. Since the behavior of men can affect their relationship therefore, it can as well affect the nation in which they live. Psychology scientifically studies man’s emotions, motivations, response patterns and mental abilities under a certain condition. This helps to increase the positive mode of relationship between or among men, this contributing to the national development.,
Religion can be referred to as regulatory system of beliefs, values, and practices, pervasive in every stage of human societal evolution, which not only seeks to explain the relationship between man and the supernatural force or power but also tries to find answers and solutions to the ultimate problems of life”. Religion contributes to national development by trying to find answers and solutions to the ultimate problems of life. Religion is a veritable instrument for promoting and maintaining social harmony, integration, stability and progress. Hence, contributes to national development. Social Studies
This is the study of how man affects his environment and vise verse. Since social studies is culture-bound therefore, the meaning, scope and objectives of social studies are largely determined by the needs, interest, values, problems and desire of a given culture group. Social studies also give knowledge, values and skills to those that study it for them to be able to find solution to the national problems. This is the contribution made by social studies to national development. History
The basics of existence of any country or nation are of a great importance for the country or nation and this can be provided by history. History can be defined as the study of some activities of man in the past, which has meaning and relevance to the present future of mankind. History has in mind to reveal that past activities of man, which have meaning and relevance to the present, and future of mankind. If the mistakes in the past activities of man are corrected then it will help in the national development. Therefore, history as a social science contributes to national development.
