Extremists of 2012

The Maya have predicted with their calendars a cataclysmic disaster in 2012. Some people are trying to protect themselves from a global polar shift using extreme measures.

The fear of the end of days in 2012 has promulgated a wide variety of behaviors from people who seek to protect themselves from what they believe will be a major change upon the earth.  Some people believe there will be a polar shift and that the Earth will stop rotating, then begin to rotate in the opposite direction counterclockwise.  This polar shift would be cataclysmic with numerous catastrophies including earthquakes, flooding, and volcanic eruptions on a scale that has never been seen or experienced before.

In order to survive these disasters there are people who have purchased land near the center meridians of the Earth close to the equator.  There they drill down into the Earth where there are no mountains and low incidence of known earthquakes.  Next, a steel rod approximately 300 feet long is placed down into the Earth;  a steel loop is then attached on the top of the rod at the surface of the Earth.  A large bore steel chain is then attached to the loop and it wraps around a person to stabilize them so that they will not fall into a crevice or be swept away by any hurricane force winds that may occur during the cataclysm.  Imagine chaining yourself to the ground on December 21, 2012 to prevent yourself from blowing away.  This is only one of the many extremes that people are turning to in light of the information coming out about the Mayan calendar predictions.

There is hope in that we can all use common sense and our ability to discern what information is truthful and to what extent we will agree and take action based on our interpretations.  Many people are reactionary, choosing to react to the information in the media rather than exploring all knowledge related to the Mayan calendar and other ancient predictions themselves.
