How Britain and America Helped to Destroy The Island of Jamaica

Describing how Britain and America went about destroying Jamaica and the future of its people.

We have often been told by England how lucky we are to be British.  How Britain has civilised us and built our country from an island that did not exist, to an island of rich and prosperous people.  The Commercialisation, the Education, and other progress could only be made through Colonisation.

Lets examine the illusion of the above statement.  In the first place the masses of black people living in Jamaica at the time of my birth were either semi-illiterate or completely illiterate.  The great majority could not read or write and had no trade or profession, there was development which took place in Jamaica, such as the Railway which ran from the Dockland of the city of Kingston and wound its way through the interior of the 14 parishes.  This railway system was not built for the purpose of helping the people to travel from one part of the island to the other, but solely to bleed the country of all its wealth.  All the products of Jamaica were drained daily from the interior to the Docklands to be shipped to the Mother country, not for the benefit of the people, but to make the Mother country rich and powerful.

The black people were used as a means to an end, they were the ones who slaved on the plantations for the food and materials to support the Mother country.  This Mother did not care a dam about her children, the purpose of her black children was to work and support their so called white Mother whose sole intention was to use and abuse them in every way, and to deny them any fundamental human rights.

The English people who lived in Jamaica were like Tin Pot Gods, they did not mix with the black people, they were the bosses who walked around with their head held high full of arrogance and pomposity with the essence of superiority, as if they were super human beings.  Many black people believed the white man was God, and was born to rule, these poor black people accepted their treatment, believing this was their station in life, and that God made them to serve.  They saw no other kind of life than one of serving the white man and accepting the white mans superiority.  This inferiority complex was embedded in the minds of the people, so deep that until this day it is almost impossible to eradicate.  In this belief lay the basis for recognition and acceptance that everything which was white was pure and good, and everything which was black was evil.  The black man looking at himself in the mirror, saw himself as ugly and devil like.

The Bible reinforces this belief in all its texts referring to the Nubian’s and the Nubian King Nimrod who built the tower of Babel.  The Bible also refers to Sem, Ham and Jephat and the black people according to the Bible are Hamites, the black man being the sons of Ham are cursed.  The black man was also made to be hewers of wood and drawers of water.  Believing in the Bible the way they do, inferiority is bound to be a part of their psyche.  The only doctrine the black man was forced to accept was Christianity, and they took the Bible literally and believed in every word.

The non-white people were graded as one would grade commodities.  There were the Mulattoes, the Sambos, the Brown Skin, the Copper Colour, the Negritta, and the Negrilla and at the bottom of the pile, the Nigger.  In other words we belonged to a system which was based on the shade colour of ones skin, the lighter skin you were the higher position you had in life and the black skin was at the bottom of the pile.  This has been embedded within us for centuries from time of slavery and beyond.  It is also rooted within our psyche that physiologically we find it difficult to eradicate, wherever we may be.  Surely this was an attempt by the white man namely the English to bring about the complete destruction of a people, not to help them as they pretended to do.

Until today it has become so deep rooted within us, that it makes unity among us impossible.  I would like to quote Tolstoy:

‘I sat on a mans back with my hand closely around his neck, squeezing him and choking him to death, yet I pretend to the man and all the world that I am doing everything to relieve his burden accept getting of his back.”

unquote.

During slavery the slaves were forbidden to speak their own language based on what country in Africa they were from.  They were punished, whipped and brutalised and forced to speak a language which they could not comprehend.  Without a language of their own it was impossible for them to be educated.

These people had to invent some type of language similar to the English language which is called Creole, Patois, or broken English.  There is no such language as Jamaican today, we are told the University of Jamaica is insisting on making Creole a recognised language.  This is a fallacy, no other country in the world speaks the language which is spoken by the ignorant masses of Jamaica and therefore such a language could never be recognised internationally.  There is no seat of learning in any part of the World where one could go to gain a diploma in Creole or Patios, which would be recognised, therefore anyone who advocates the Teachings of the present Creole language to the people of Jamaica, is misleading the people.  We must realise whether we like it or not the English language is our Mother Tongue, unless we have the full command of the only viable language which is open to us as a small nation, there is no possible way we will be able to progress, and take our rightful place in the world society at large.

The slave masters did not correct the speaking of Patois or Creole providing the slaves could understand orders which were given to them.  The language they spoke did not matter apart from when the masters believed the slaves were using a language that they the masters did not understand.

Afraid of the revolt by the slaves against the yoke of oppression, the masters were quite content to allow the slaves to use broken English.  This language is called Creole or Patios whichever you prefer to call it.  Creole and Patios are still the main language used by the poor and uneducated people of Jamaica.  This prevented progress educationally as far as the masses were concerned.

Creole is not a recognised language neither is Patios and to write in any of these languages is almost impossible.  There is no seat of learning no College or Universities who teach Patios or Creole, therefore it is impossible for the ordinary man and woman from a poor background in the Caribbean much more the masses to be educated in a language they do not understand.   When schools were finally opened to the black people it was for those black people who have made some progress after 200 years of so called freedom from slavery, these black people were in a small minority.  It was dictated that the black people could only follow a certain profession which was either Law or Medicine, it was important that now slavery was abolished black people were educated to a certain degree and with a specific purpose in mind.  The doctors were there to maintain the good health of the workers in the interest of Britain, and the lawyers were there to maintain and uphold the British law which governed and controlled the people.

Now that Slavery was abolished the British occupation of Jamaica was becoming less economical with the constant demands of the workers for a small share of the produce yielded by their labour.  The Police Force now became the biggest employer with the head of the Police and all Officers imported from England to control the people.  This also applied to the medical services most doctors were of English origin, even in the small towns and villages the doctors were white English men, also the Legal Profession the dispenser of Justice.  The political institutions such as the House of Representatives that governed Jamaica before Universal Adult Suffrage, did not represent the black people it represented the interests of Britain.  This consisted of mainly white people with a few black people who had become land owners who maintained the rule of law as operated at the time.

A hundred years after slavery was abolished there were no schools where black people could attend.  The few schools that were established throughout the island were for the benefit of the English settlers children and not for the black people.

There were no hospitals in the small towns and villages throughout the island, and there was no means of sanitation as can still be seen by the stinking gulley’s that still carry the human waste openly in the City of Kingston and Montego Bay.  There was the establishment of some commercialism.  These establishments were created not for the people of Jamaica but for commerce in respect of the English people who lived in Jamaica and for their bosses and associates in England.

Yes there was the Centre of Administration where the Administrator General was English, the Kingston and St Andrew Co-operation headed by English civil servants, the United Fruit Company which was governed and controlled by England, the Banks (including Barclays Bank) where all Bank Managers and their staff were white people, in these offices there were no black people employed.  There were also the stores in King Street Kingston where not one of the assistants working in these stores were black.  The black man was excluded from every commercial institution which existed, and were relegated to be labourers toiling on the plantations for Tate and Lyle and the Banana producers.   There was no compulsory education for the black children especially those who lived in the far reaches of urban areas of the various parishes.

Yes there were Schools of sort in the 19th century, but the Catholic Church administrated these Schools whose Teachers were mainly Nuns.  Even Boys Town and Alpha Cottage the Correction Centres which helped many black youngsters were established and run by Nuns.  There were no Colleges catering for the poor, and few black children were able to acquire the Senior and Junior Cambridge Certificate which would advance them to further education.  The Jamaican people were deliberately denied any form of progression which could help them to establish themselves as a Nation.  They were always deemed to be incapable of learning as far as England was concerned.  Our Mother Country did not envisage the day when they would not possess and control us, therefore there was no need for us to be educated neither was there any need for us to speak the only language which was forced onto us.

As Jamaicans we must realise without a language we have no culture and without a culture we have no past present or future.  Which is why our so-called Governments are finding it difficult to govern our country in our interest because through lack of education we are ungovernable.  The religious dogma which originated in Rome namely Christianity and the Bible was used as a means of mis-education and control.  In the time of Slavery the Slaves only had one day off from their forced labour which was in the name of Christianity where they could go to the Churches of their White Masters to worship their White Masters God.

The depiction of Michael Angelo in the image of Christ and his disciples were pictures of all Europeans also the Angels of the Heaven.  Everything which was good and pure was white as the driven snow, and to obey your Masters you had to be good and obedient.

Therefore the 10 Commandments were embedded in your mind so deep within, you had no other alternative than to be good and obey your Masters, because by obeying your Masters you are doing the Will of God.  While Lucifer/Satan were depicted as the evil one black and devil like, who lived in a hot place called Hell.  Unless you obeyed the Will of the White God then the black Satan or Devil will be your Master, and Hell will be your lot.

This kind of conditioning of the minds of the black people had become so effective, even until today the black people are killing each other all over the world because of their hatred for each other.  At the same time the religious fanaticism within them is so great, they are afraid to question their original indoctrination lest they be condemned where their soul will be thrown into the bottomless pit at the battle of Armageddon.

The black people must realise it is about time they awoke from the spell which has been cast upon them, the spell which has divided them, which prevents them from uniting as a people, the spell which casts such hatred in them from one to another, unless they respect themselves, they cannot demand the respect of others.  You must respect yourself to demand respect, and among black people such respect does not exist.  When our masters finally realised they had no other alternative but to leave the island they devised other ways to control us.

It was now a new period Britain had realised that the tools they used throughout the centuries for the exploitation of the people were now becoming useless.  There was nothing they could do which would stem the determination of the workers supported by the new middle class in their fight to be liberated.  Guns, batons and brute force could no longer hold the people back.  The weapon of divide and rule was no longer effective.  It was quite obvious although the masses wanted independence they were not equipped and no attempt was made to prepare them for such an independence, a way out had to be found, hence it was agreed that our masters would free us providing we accepted their Imperialistic Constitution.  Wanting our freedom we jumped at the chance of accepting the Constitution we were given, but this constitution was designed in such a way that we would muddle through hopelessly claiming we are free, while according to the Constitution we remained subjected to the Crown and still remain so until this day.

How can we ever be free if we are a subjected people?  Although this promised freedom took over 10 years to materialise no attempt was made to prepare us for Government.  One had to accept the impossible position which we inherited.  A people who for years were deprived of any status in the Government of their country, a people who were uneducated, with three quarters of the population almost illiterate, were told they were now free.

While our Masters who had ran the country for over 400 years took their wealth, which they had accumulated over the centuries and left the country, leaving their Constitution and their stooges to continue the exploitation of the people.  At the same time the continuing destabilisation of our Government by the MI5 and the CIA made it impossible for us to Govern.  One will remember Philip Agee the Head CIA Officer who was in charge of the destabilisation of Michael Manley’s Government in Jamaica who came to England in the 1970’s and exposed the American Government for what they were doing in that country.

The people of Jamaica do not manufacture Guns, we have no Arms factories, officially our Government does not import Guns, we do not have Shops or any outlets where people can buy guns, yet our country has been overridden with Guns supplied by the CIA to members of both parties, thereby creating a situation which sees each Election bring bloodshed as we fought our politics with bullets, while we have no understanding of the word democracy.

There is no example shown by the two powerful countries who preach democracy, which does not exist within their own country.  Neither does the United States of America or the United Kingdom with their two party system, each having the same policies, while at the same time being able to condition the minds of their electorate that when they vote they are voting for a change, when in fact the real Government of the countries are the same Civil Servants who advise each party when they are in power.  No wonder our leaders failed to Govern, as the Constitution was designed for failure.
