Mass media can be television, radio, movies, news, magazines, photography, and internet. As you can see mass media is basically all the things we use everyday.

People everyday get influenced by the media. The fashion industry influences people about their body image. The way the industry influences us is because people see attractive good looking people in the media and believe that’s what they should look like. Every day people come across advertisements that show these models that are slim and attractive. When the human mind keeps seeing these images it stores it. Your mind will note that that is the way the body should look.

I believe the media is not to be totally blamed. Many people get comments from parents, friends, and other people about their body image. It is also this criticism that can influence how you look. Because of this constant reminding from other people, you want to change and look the way people want you to look. Media is not to be totally blamed for your body image, but it does make a huge effect on your views.

Families and friends can help other people achieve a positive self image. They can do this by telling the people nicely what they can change about themselves. If you see a person eating too much or too little you can tell them nicely that they should eat less or eat more.

I have learned that the media makes a huge difference in our lives. The media helps shape our lives in good and bad ways. I also learned that it is not entirely the media’s influence that affects us, but it can also be our peers and family.
