If you study in an international school, this issue is not unfamiliar anymore in your ears. Befriend with people from different countries in the world is one of great times we can have in our lives. For some people, it may also be once in a life time chance, like for example when they go abroad in an exchange program.
Through this inter-cultures friendship, you may have your own different and unique stories about having inter-culture friends, those who come from different cultures. From different color of skin, the way they talk, the food they used to eat in their native countries, their cultures, songs and arts until their fashions are the things that make them so different in your eyes. Somehow, these differences never matter to make us become friends. “Variety is the spice of life”. This is what people like to say about how the differences of us can make our life more tasteful, colorful and not monotones anymore.
Luckily, God makes us one international language that is understood and spoken by most people around the world as second language for the non-English speaking countries. This language helps us to communicate with people from other countries who do not understand our mother-tongue language. For example, someone from Indonesia travels to Egypt, he does not need to learn Arabic before going there, because he has already been able to speak English. In Egypt, everywhere he will not face any difficulties to communicate with native Egyptians as long as the people there speak English as well.
If international language never exists, this world would never develop as modern as now. There will be no export-import, no travelling over-seas, no exchange program, no technology can boom around the world. Because different countries cannot understand each other as they speak different languages. Unless, one of them learn the other country’s language. Of course, this thing will spend much time and not efficient at all. Because that language only spoken by certain country. How if we need to work with people from five different countries? Do we need to learn all of their languages first before starting the work? How much more time should be wasted? Lucky, we do not need it because English as international language exists. To start the work, every of us just needs to learn one foreign language: English.
Now, we know how important this international language is. Among inter-culture friends, for sure, this language is used mostly. Why is it English? Because they do not speak and understand our native language and vice versa. Hence, we have to use the international language that both of us understand well.
