Media Studies Why?
My views on the youth of Britain and its obsession with media studies.
The upshot of a huge amount of degree standard young people qualified in media studies is who does the rest of the jobs? I have been unwell of late and as an out patient I have been in and out of hospital almost every week. I haven’t seen an British doctor in months Ive seen a German doctor an Indian doctor a Polish doctor a Lithuanian doctor a Jamaican doctor Ive had British nurses helping the doctors with English but that’s as close as Ive come to a British doctor, why? answers simple no British people are training to be surgeons doctors or chemists, we have to advertise abroad and pay their re-location fees, a crazy crazy upside down situation.
Those comments above may seem racist but i assure you I’m not, I am however very frustrated to see degree standard young people working in car washes, supermarkets, because they cant find a job in their chosen field. Ive singled out media studies because for a while it was the most popular degree course in Britain. How many people have travelled to Hollywood in search of fame and fortune as an actor or actress only to end up flipping burgers at the local drive through? its a hard dog hitting world out there, I truly believe the education system in Britain should restrict course places at a certain point, not when the universities are busting at the seams with media studies students but before that point is reached. We need doctors, scientists, engineers, research chemists, not children’s TV presenters or scene shifters!
Lets strongly suggest to young clever students to take a career path that will earn them a good living and help the community.

I totally agree with everything you have written. I definitely think parents need to guide their children onto a career path that will be beneficial to both them, and society.
More often than not, if it’s left to the ‘child’ to decide, they will quite often take the ‘easy ride’ route. I know of several young people who have tried for the same College / University, purely so they can stick with their mates.
