Men Are From Mars and Women Are From Venus
Have you ever wondered how different or alike males and females are?
As most of us know, hormones play a significant role in the development of males and females. Boys have a higher level of testosterone and a lower level of neurotransmitter serotonin, which controls aggression and impulsivity which might explain why males have higher suicide rates, become alcoholics more readily, and are diagnosed with ADD. These harsh behaviors and differences in hormones have major control over how males and females act. It is up to the individual to choose how he/she will live, however, hormones and other physical features can’t be controlled. Disruptive behavior in males and females is existent, yet why do we experience these “crisis points” at different ages?
In girls, the first crisis usually comes during early adolescents. Before then, it was found out that girls are basically at their peak for establishing relationships and interpreting emotions. During this crisis, the child’s self-esteem drops at an alarming rate. In boys, the first crisis point comes at an earlier age where boys begin to throw tantrums and seek escape from their mother although they might not want to. Society and other boys basically teach each other to not be dependent on others. For example, a little boy getting a kiss from his mother might be called a wimp. The problems for boys include bed-wetting and separation anxiety. It seems as if society is trying to take away typical male behavior and suppress it.
Based on a few charts, males had a greater chance of being binge drinkers, getting arrested, taking part in violent crimes, and embezzlement. Girls were more likely to become prostitutes or runaway’s. Girls also had higher eating disorder rates; however, this rate dropped a lot in comparison to 9th and 12th graders. At birth, boys have brains that are slightly larger than female brains although this doesn’t affect their ability to learn. At this age, girls are born with more nerve cells to process information better. There areas ore better with language production and recognition. At the age of 4-6years of age, males have a tough time in school and often lag behind girls in reading and motor skills. Females usually develop relationships at this time and are better at reading and writing.
Based on my knowledge, personal observation, and notes that I have obtained, men and women are extremely different. While growing up in a society that endorses feminism, the male role is being suppressed. In my opinion, schools, and in a way society, is made to fit female standards. Certain characteristics cannot be solved by learning alone. Natural occurrences take part in how we live as boys and girls.
