Mysteries of The Nazca Lines

In Peru, 400 kilometers south of Lima and 50 kilometers from the Pacific coast, lies the desert of Nazca plateau, covered with many drawings and geometric figures that can only be seen from the air.

It was not until 1927, a thousand years after the alleged disappearance of the Nazca, we begin to glimpse the magnitude of the mystery, when a Peruvian pilot accidentally discovered the incredible network drawn on the floor. The American archaeologist Paul Kosok, the first researcher to attempt to resolve it, arrived on the scene in 1939.

A huge archaeological site

It was not until 1927, a thousand years after the alleged disappearance of the Nazca, we begin to glimpse the magnitude of the mystery, when a Peruvian pilot accidentally discovered the incredible network drawn on the floor. Stunning pictures of animals found on the plains of Nazca.

Stretching over more than 500 km2, the Nazca Lines were drawn by clearing the thin layer of dark stones that cover the desert to expose the lighter soil.

Some brands of well-defined three types: straight lines, zigzag or spiral drawings can reach up to 5 km long, geometric figures as large bands that resemble the “runways” representations of animals in excess often the 150 meters.

On the side of some hills that border the desert, pictures of humans in a different and more primitive execution are attributed to the Paracas, the Nazca predecessors in the region.

The geometric figures drawn by the relief of the land, as if these did not exist, and covered by the dust of ages resurfaced in all its glory thanks to the work of German mathematician Maria Reiche call. I devoted all his life from 1945, dividing his time between research and conservation of the lines in the sky.

Major Astronomical Book “?

Like Paul Kosov, which began on second and who owe the above definition, Maria Reiche think that straight lines (which are usually reasons that intersect solar) are a sort of astronomical calendar to calculate dates and stations.

Who and what equipment used to make these figures, if only seen from the sky?.

However, studies by computer made in 1968 by the American astronomer Gerald Hawkins (famous for discovering the astronomical alignments of Stonehenge) can not find a number of alignment enough to overcome the simple effect of chance.

However, the ethnologist Simone Waisbard and his son Jack, expert, realize to study the plan of all shapes and representations of living beings, that this is a weather calendar. Or rather a number of overlapping schedules in the course of the centuries, for example, lets suppose the overlay of a “track” on a magnificent bird of over 100 meters long. Another expert on the subject, the English explorer Tony Morrison, drawn drawings attributed to religious significance, based on customs and religion of the Nazca. For him, the lines are paths linking sacred altars (which can be materialized by the numerous mounds of stones joined by these lines), the drawings, homage to the gods of heaven and the great “tracks”, the meeting places for worship.

Transport and Lifting Statues

How could such a perfect plot drawings are born without them? Maria Reiche said they did enlarging “models”, of which traces found near some animal figures.

What purpose do these figures? Are they an astronomical book, an irrigation system, a way to be detached from the air?

The American Jim Woodman, along with the English balloonist Julian Nott, tried to prove that the Nazca knew how to make hot air balloons to supervise the drawing of the figures. Working from drawings found on pottery and after noting the presence of traces of fire at the center of the network of tracks, made a balloon in 1975, the Condor I, with ropes and fabrics of the same type that were found in the Nazca mummies, and hung a cane basket as a small gondola. The balloon rose 90 meters before he fell, miraculously saved both airmen. But there is evidence that the Nazca were able to fly … Bold but sensible assumption that the Swiss Erich von Daniken, for whom the “tracks” would be a rudimentary airport for aliens who came to visit our planet in the past. Unless the animals are wonderful drawings of a giant sign erected by the faithful in the course of centuries to guide about “gods” for its hypothetical return.
