                                                                            QIN SHI HUANGDI

                                            - the most brilliant emperor in China’s history-

Qin Shi Huang was the first Emperor of Qin Dynasty.  He was born at the period of Warring States.  The first emperor was born in 259 B.C. as the oldest son of King Zhuangxiang of Qin and an unpopular concubine.  At birth he was given the personal name Zheng.   As Ying Zheng, he had no chance to become a king.  He was more like an unattended orphan, and he was even sent to the State of Zhao as a hostage.  His childhood was miserable, but with the help of Lu Buwei, a wealthy merchant with lots of connections, Ying Zheng seized the throne of Qin at the age of 13, while Lu Buwei became the prime minister.  By 22, Ying Zheng overthrew Lu Buwei and gained actual power of a king.  He ruled the country by law, and he developed Qin as the strongest state among the seven warring states of China.  Here is the history and accomplishments of one of ancient China’s most respected leaders.

In 221 B.C., Ying Zheng, ruler of the State of Qin, a man of great talent and bold vision, ended the 250 years of rivalry among the independent principalities and created the first centralized , unified, multiethnic monarchy in Chinese history-the Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.).  Qin Shi Huang expected his empire to last forever, but Qin Dynasty survived 15 years with two reigns only.  However, “Qin Shi Huang had the greatest and long lasting influence among all rulers in Chinese history”.  (John Mann, page 207)
