Social Sciences

Social sciences.

The disciplines of Social Sciences are now gaining popularity throughout the world. The reign of Natural Sciences and their claim of being the only or superior sciences can now finally be challenged with great development in all disciplines of Social Sciences and students from across the world opting from them.

However, Iran is not following this modern trend. Let alone, advancing or promoting Social Sciences in the country, it has banned the disciplines. The 12 banned subjects in Iranian universities include Law, Philosophy, Political Science, Management, Psychology, Women’s Studies and Human Rights. It is said that these subjects are based upon western schools of thought and are therefore incompatible with the religious teachings and Islamic fundamentals. Iran’s conservative leadership has had a concern regarding the subjects of Women’s Studies and Human Rights since quite a while now. It is said that the key to progress is education and education is the best way of empowering youth. Nations across the world are working to revolutionize and modernize their education system, while Iran is restricting their studies. It seems that the conservative leadership wants to produce a nation of obeying and complying citizens who never learn or dare to question what they are made to follow.
