Top 10 Largest Cities in the World
The top ten largest cities of the world boast an amazing combined population of more than 208,220,000 people. Are you living in one of these major cities?
The world is a very big place with so much to see and do that most people do not even realize that the majority of the world’s population live in or around major cities with populations that are absolutely mind-boggling to think about.
The population estimates are sourced from the WIKIPEDIA 2008 estimates.
TOKYO, Japan (Population 34,400,000)

Tokyo, Japan is the largest city in the world. Tokyo’s official language is Japanese and has a ninety-nine percent literacy rate amongst its population, which makes Tokyo one of the smartest cities in the world. Tourists can find plenty of interesting things to do and see, from dining on local foods to shopping in high-tech malls to exploring the rich history of the city.
JAKARTA, Indonesia (Population 21,800,000)

Jakarta, Indonesia has rapidly grown since 1945, from 900,000 inhabitants to more than twenty million citizens in 2008. The city has become the largest Muslim city in the world; with the majority of its citizens actively practicing Islam. Jakarta is actually a very beautiful city that is nestled between the Java Sea to the north and the low Bogor Hills to the south. Tourists vacationing in Jakarta should be respectful of the country’s religious practices, but should not be extremely worried about the dangers of the city. There is plenty for tourists to see and to do; from visiting museums to learning about the beautiful history of the country.
New York City, United States (Population 20,090,000)

New York City is home to two major league baseball teams; the New York Yankees and the New York Mets, as well as home to more than twenty million people who have come to the city from all over the world. There are thousands of things to keep tourists busy both night and day; from stuffing their faces with fantastic foods to dancing the night away in a swanky nightclub to taking a stroll in Central Park. If shopping is your thing, then this city will not disappoint your wildest shopping dreams; a person could really shop until they drop and still not experience everything that New York City has to offer to them.

This was an interesting blog about the largest cities around the world. I had no idea that these 10 cities have a population that is nearly as big as the population of the United States. And, much bigger than all of Canada and most other countries around the world. Wow, this is impressive numbers. Good job bring the facts to the rest of us.
I have also enjoyed reading the rest of your other articles, Nelson, too. Keep ‘on writing and I’ll keep on reading those that you write.

I have long been terrified of world over population, these cities are examples of a future I I do not want. I have flown over Mexico city a few times, and it always makes me sad.

Been to a number of the biggest cities in the world: lots of traffic, noise and skyscrapers and shopping malls and the same international brands, music, fashions you can get anywhere. Boring!
