Types of Communication
One of the most ancient behaviors of people is communication. There are six types of communication.
One of the most ancient behaviors of people is communication. Scholars have identified different types of situations when people communicate. Basing on that the variation of communications is defined. There are six types of communication. These are:
- Intrapersonal communication
- Interpersonal communication
- Small group communication
- Organizational communication
- Mass communication and
- Public communication
1. Intrapersonal Communication. This is the communication within us. Most of us do self talking, even at the presence of others. This type of communication takes place during imagining, planning, solving problems or during perceiving.
2. Interpersonal Communication. This is the process of message transaction between persons (generally within two).
3. Small Group Communication. This is the communication between and among members of a group, meeting for a common objective.
4. Organizational Communication. This is the communication within a large group, more precisely in an organization. Organizational communication includes intrapersonal, interpersonal and small group communication.
5. Mass Communication. It is intended for large group of audiences. This type of communication generally takes place through television, radio, Internet or newspaper.
6. Public Communication. This is often called public speaking. In this type of communication one person delivers speech to a large audience physically.
With the advancement of science and technology, now there are different new dimensions of communication have arrived. May be those are technical communications or digital communication. Today people communicate through cell phone, email, pager, video phone etc. Development of modern science has a keen focus on development of communication.
