As evident from the history, the Greeks and the Romans have made many great examples that should be studied before understanding the current field of Urban Design. It was not only the Romans and the greeks but its a whole lot of other civilisations that combined to make up the whole of the new urban design system. Just after the top river civilisations at the crete Island, the minion civilisation was washed up by the sea and their higly advanced civilisation moved upto the banks of the Greek Kingdom. This was the start of the architectural shaping up of the Greek Kingdom in itself. Further, they thought them the use of marble to make great structures and the knowledge of architecture. Marble was a major material used in the construction process. They made mountain top cities called the acropolis which can even be seen from a distance away. They made many unique buildings for different use ranging from the Agora to the aqueducts, from Parthenon to Stoa’s, and so on and on. The Agora was mainly a tiled place where no wheeled vehicle was allowed. Instead men met each other while passing by and so soon, Agora became a place where meetings were held. And later a place for major announcements and further it was used for military purpose and council meetings too. Similarly many such buildings made the most of the greek cities but they collapsed due to any proper civil engineering works like the sewerage systems, network of roads or long distance trades. Romans although built most of the buildings on the footprint of the existing Greek cities, but due to their strong civil engineering concepts, they established a huge empire which is evident till date. The above exams are from the medieval times in which many others like the Goths, Gauls, The english, French and so on tried to establish their rule. Soon after, the feudal period appeared where landlords rules small estates and peices of land. Soon, the Rennaissance and then Barouque period changed the way cities were made. As eveident in these three of the periods, people were given lesser importance and large buildings were made for the wealthy. But in rennaissance it was the Church and the places of Christ that was made grand.
