Why People Live Near Volcanoes

It’s just something random I suppose.

The people who live near the volcano may also be superstitious and may read things like horoscopes, which might tell them that they will be safe for as long as they live. Now I am not saying that horoscopes always lie because I have never read one, but I do not think that they can predict when volcanoes are going to erupt.

Now onto some environmental reasons, in our brief for this piece of writing it was explained to us that the last time that a particular volcano had last erupted in 1979 so, if we use this volcano as a guide, firstly we could say that the environment will have now calmed down, since it has been thirty years since the last eruption. This will also have given plants a chance to use the minerals contained within the soil, as explained in the economic reasons.

Another upside for the environment would be the hot springs – since the people of the surrounding towns would be using the hot water from them, it would mean that they wouldn’t be using coal/gas to heat their water, which would mean less pollution being let into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels. The electricity would also not be polluting the air because they would probably be using geothermal power, which is a non-polluting source of electricity.

In my opinion it would not be a good idea to live near a volcano but that is because I would not want to live near a natural disaster waiting to happen, however if I wanted cheap electricity and a promise of a job most of the year then I probably would choose to live near a volcano.
