Brazil is located on the Atlantic coast in South America, beautiful beaches, authentic foods and lovely tropical temperatures.
Visitors flock to Rio de Janeiro, all throughout the year, but its party time during the few days just before Lent. Lent is the forty days of fastening, and self-sacrificing to prepare for Easter. Just like in New Orleans and Venice they party until the day before Ash Wednesday, it is at this time that party time is over and everyone returns to the homes to prepare the family for these forty days, but until then; It is Party!
During the week of the carnival you can feel the building of the soul of Brazil as the streets come alive and the true essence of the party gets under way; it the party of the year. These festivities just don’t happen though; there is a lot of work involved, from the beat of the annual samba procession, to picking a theme for that year; so that families can make costume to show their artist abilities. These costumes are usually made in secret since it is much more enjoyable to see what your neighbors and friends have been busy working on. It is definitely a must to come in costume, and the more exquisite and colorful the more attention it will draw.

When at last the Carnival begins it goes on from Saturday to Tuesday, without stopping there are costumes to be seen, the samba procession that takes place on Sunday night a must see for all. Many of the residents of Rio de Janeiro practice their samba all year long, and each year their numbers grow. Most start learning the samba at a very early age, and over time they manage to make it look so easy and elegant.
This is probably the one time the people put aside all their difference and taboos; as everyone from all walks of life; come out to celebrate and have a great time. People during this time are cooking all types of foods authentic to their culture, along with fruits and desserts to be enjoyed by all. Hey it would not be a party without food.
By Tuesday night everyone is very tired, it has been a long four days, as Ash Wednesday approaching, the party begins to break up; and they begin to clean up their streets and prepare for the most important days of the Christian Religion begins.
Ash Wednesday has begun.
