A New Era for Teens

The positive side of teenagers.

Transform

Why do some teenagers have a relatively easy time growing up and achieving productive, healthy future while others struggle, give in to bad influences, and end up unhappy? It is said that the children are the future. What kind of future do we see for our children? In recent news, all we see and hear is negativity about our teenagers. There is drugs use, teenage pregnancy, violence and alcohol use. In A national survey by Public Agenda, published early this month, found that 74 percent of parents described kids as rude, irresponsible, and wild. Yes I do agree that there are problems. All generations have had their set of problems. Contrary to the belief of some, the future is not as grim as it might appear for our teens.

Not only is the future not grim for teens, it will be an exciting one for them. It is a new era for teens of today. Technology is great and fascinating. The younger generation will take the lead and will see it through in the future. There is a great thing called the computer, which is now in the classrooms. The computer is a great source for learning, and is full of information. My daughter, ten years old is better at the computer than I am. Their brains are young and fast. The instruments that doctors uses now are more advance and faster than they were five years ago. A doctor can operate on a patient in another state with out leaving his office. This is done by new technology. Young people are all behind all these advancements. Technology is moving and changing so fast, we can hardly keep up.

Moreover, teens are getting involved in all kinds of positive programs. According to David Gergen, “young people by the droves are signing up as volunteers in their communities.” There is a program called the Vietnamese American Youth for the future. The VAYF is a student -run organization of youths that desires to unite people by promoting cultural awareness, community involvement, and leadership. There is another program in the state of Colorado; it is called the Colorado State 4-H. they help to develop tomorrow’s leaders. These are just a few but there are thousands of programs around the country that are helping to mold our teens into positive and productive adult of our future. Also, more students have and take advantage of the opportunity to go to college. There are a variety of study programs, after school programs and other enrichment programs that provide educational opportunities for our teens.
