A Simpler Time

With the economy slowly returning to normal, will we lose the things we gained from tightening our belts.

I was encouraged to see some of the many good things that came out to the down turn in the economy.  Many of the news shows and educational channels were showing people returning to family game night instead of going to expensive sporting events.  They were showing us how to make our own coffee, ice cream and hamburgers to save money instead of eating out.  Does this time together bring our families closer together, I believe it does.

Most families have busy schedules these days.  Both parents work and the kids are in many activities outside the home that need a parent to drive to and pick up from.  These activities are good in some moderation, however, the dinner table and the family working together to make a meal, participate in games or enjoying a big bowl of popcorn; helps create a stable family structure.  I recently organized a weenie roast for my grandson’s birthday.  I was suprised by the number of adults who had never attended one.  There is something almost primal about sitting around a campfire and cooking your supper on a stick.  The comments and experience showed me that we need to return to simpler experiences, sharing with friends in the outdoors and creating memories by interacting with participation from all.
