Adult to Child Ratio

Public outings for daycare prove to others that there aren’t nearly enough adults monitoring the children.

You and your two children are at the local park enjoying the beautiful day.  Before you know it, a van from a daycare center pulls up.  Eight or nine three year children burst out of the van, ready to play. Sure, its great that these kids are getting out of the daycare center, but this may turn out to be “not-so-great” for you.

Before you know it, you are standing in line with your two children, about to go down the slide, and one of the kids from the daycare center walks up and shoves one of your children out of the way so he can go down the slide first.  Although this is a typical situation, and you acknowledge your own child could have done the same thing, this situation continues to happen for the rest of your time at the park.  Every time you look for the daycare worker, she is with another child.  Now your children begin to get frustrated and have trouble understanding why those children are getting away with their poor behavior.

Talking with the daycare worker might be a start, but you can’t expect things to get any better.  After all, she does have several children to look after.  You are now left with no choice but to leave the park.  This leaves of us having another reason to believe that there needs to be a better adult-to-child ratio in daycares.
