American Morality
What is wrong in America? a comparison with the poisonwood bible.
In Kilanga the villagers had to hunt for their food. When they were unable to find it, they had to “burn out” the animals. In America, if we need food, there are people who raise animals for meat and plant seeds for vegetables. We call them farmers. They allow the others to work in other areas other than merely trying to survive such as construction, research, medicine, and buisness. The farmers then can trade their goods for others skills such as houses, cars, clothing, etc. However, people’s status in America is based off of what they have. In Kilanga every villager (except the leaders) was equal. They did not worry if their clothes matched, and the houses were all the same. So my society would have a trade system, but would not be the artificial “caste” system America has created.
In this system it is possible that one could end up with poorer health care and a shorter average life span as a result. However, the quality of this life would be of higher morality and more enjoyable than that of the average American. It is possible that certain materials may be lacking depending on the skill distribution of the society, but when noticed the people would be of a high enough moral stature that they would take it upon themselves to fill the void. Moral happiness and strength is the key to success in life.
