About Amish women

Economy: Amish women own nine percent of the Amish businesses. They cherish thrift, save money in trust funds to buy houses and small businesses without going through mortgages. This is possible because the Amish live an austere life. Rags are recycled instead of throwing them away. They do not send children to college and as a rule do not pursue luxurious life.

American women on the contrary live a visibly ostentatious life, buy good cars, clothes, ornaments, expensive perfumes and wrist watches, they buy quality houses they cannot possibly save for, hence they pay exorbitant mortgages over a period of ten to thirty years.

Political: Amish are not politically ambitious, they see vying for public offices as showing off and pride, which is against the spirit of Gelasssenheit. They do not join the army, the police, and security outfit. They prohibit Political parties. There is no bureaucracy or organizational chart in the Amish society, no paid church employees, any professionals, executive directors or organizational charts. The society is still link together in unity despite this loose structure.

There are rigid organizational structures in the American societies; women compete favorably with men for positions, and they are in the army, navy, air force, police and any security outfit one can think of. Women contest for any elective offices in the States; they are member of the congress, house of assemblies, and directors of corporate organizations, ministers and Governors.

Summarily even though the Amish claimed to have their culture rooted in religion and very faithful followers of Christ, they stunningly do not belief in Sunday schools, reading of the bible, evangelism, no church structures, going to church as a ritual every other week and they cannot say whether they are safe or not. They belief that making a bold declaration of ones salvation is a pretentious self assertion that boarders on idolatry for only God can make such a weighty decision. Even her ministers belief anybody can fall off at anytime, hence to say one is certain of eternal salvation is pride. The Amish forbid electricity, yet they use battery-operated gadgets, no wired telephones but some use cell phones in this post modern World. Finally, as much as Amish are entitled to their opinions and religious practices, their claim to holiness seems to me hypocritical as their doctrines ritualistic.

Amish people are the most honest and christian people you could ever meet. The Bible says be not conformed to this world and thats what they are doing. They don’t fall for worldly ways.Women now a days are a shame, they don’t stay in marriages as soon as it gets tough or bad times fall they run,or mess around on their husbands. They want control of everything, the Lord put men on this earth to have authority over women.Women fall for the devils ways and thats why women are suppose to obey their husbands. Some women has asked me well what if they are wrong? You are suppose to have faith in the Lord that he will guide your husband in the right way!Don’t run when things gets tough!Amish people are respectable so don’t sit their and say they are hypocritical they are doing what the Bible says!

I’ve recently had some contact with the Amish. We hire them to build a shed. The entire time they were here, not once did they acknowledge my presence. In order not to offend them, I dressed very modestly. (Long skirt and long sleeve shirt)I spoke to them. They did not speak back.I was made to feel as if I did not exist. Yet they treated my husband with open friendship. I don’t know if they just don’t like non amish women They have a problem with African Americans. I am African American. My husband is white. The experience left me distraught.

I’d love to meet single Amish women. They’re sexy without the makeup and wearing their long dresses.Real women that love taking care of their men.
Our culture has destroyed the family, women and men both, with gay rights and same sex marriages.
Even the Amish are having a hard time protecting their culture.

#5-Craig just how do you know if they are good in bed? No gentalman would speak of a WIFE in this manner to others.Sincerely!
#2-Gwen I have had an amish man speak to me in Wal-Mart. I was will to let him go a head of me, only to have him question me as to why I thought he should have been allowed to go first, for I was a lady. My experience with the amish is that the ladies do little speaking to others such as the English but the men do address other men. It’s possible that they did not want to disrespect your husband by having words with you. This is my opinion and observation.

Yes, the Bible did say “a woman should submit to her husband”, but the phrase after that says “a husband should love his wife”. So I think in this case it is fair, I will submit to a man if he loves me. Loving means caring for, not cheating on, and hurting the wife physically or mentally. I have no problem in taking on the role of a “traditional” wife if the man can take on his role based on the Bible. That, in my opinion, is the only way for me or any woman to submit unconditionally to her husband.

Amish people are lacking in brains. They need to understand that the planet is evolving, technology is advancing. You aren’t supposed to fall back and be what we were in 1400 we’re supposed to grow and become smarter what if Earth was faced with an international crisis with somthing to do in space we would use our technology to solve it. Amish people would probably do something we did back in the day…no help there. I agree amish people are pure but women are not created less equal to men we are all the same people it takes both the mind of a woman and a man to advance to the next level

Amish women are the better choose vs american modern women. Some women and men may be intellegent enough to fight off an international crisis, however the majority of modern people are not that intellegent and are zobies of their current employer. Most modern people are not rocket scientists, they are grocery store clerks and employed in other areas that require no intellegence. One thing about modern american women though, their hair styles do look like there from outer space.

Jeff, I agree with you. Modern day America is so dumbed down. They lower test scores in schools so “no kid is left behind” but that shouldn’t be the way to do it. They should be taught properly instead of supporting the fact that they don’t understand the material being taught. Amish people don’t go past 8th grade because family is that important. Besides everything you learn after 8th grade is the same thing with more details so you really don’t need more than that in my opinion.

@Gwen It is not because you are African American. They may not have spoke to you because you are a woman and this was business between men — i.e your Husband and the workers. They did not speak to you because in this culture a lone MARRIED woman speaking to a strange man is simply not done. It would have been seen as a HUGE sign of disrespect to talk to you openly without your husband present. As an African American Mennonite woman who has been to numerous New Order Amish services I can tell you that the Amish I associate with are not racist.

    Hello:
I have just moved to Ohio temporarily, and have had some contact with the Amish in Farmers Markets and stores. One thing I have noticed is that if a man is present, the woman does not talk, or this seems to be the case.

I am an American convert to Islam, but a very moderate one, though my first exposure to Islam included the Niqab (full face covering) but I eventually abandoned that. In my faith, almost like Eastern Orthodox Christianity, women generally do not talk to men unless strictly for business.

My life study has been of religion and I find this difference to be so interesting, though I have the utmost respect for another persons’ beliefs.

    Much Peace

    Khadijah
